Kids today!
What blows me away every day dealing with these entitled brats is how they find it completely impossible to own up to a mistake. How hard is it to say.....my bad! Or, it won't happen again! Or that old classic....I'm sorry!
Been in my own business for close to 40 years. I am NOT perfect!! When I screw up and get a call back the very first thing I do is own it!! Admit the screw up and fix it for free.
It's amazing how an irate customer sweating their butt off from an A/C system not working, calms right down when you admit a mistake.
I have 3 boys, 27, 25 and 18, that will own a screw up immediately.
Not sure what the big deal is.
Ugh

It's called "lack of parenting skills" by the current generation of parents who think that it is the responsibility of the schools to teach responsibility rather than themselves.

Current day parents are the ones raised by parents who were never around, didn't believe in "disciplining" a child. and believed the BS in the child rearing books by "Dr." Spock and the like. You know, the ones whose own children turned out to be brats. The parents of today who have grown children who are whiney, "entitled"etc, are the same parents who bitched about any discipline schools tied to impose on their little assholes. The current parents who have grown children who are polite, well mannered, and have jobs corrected their children when they were bad/did wrong/etc.

Two opposite examples -

First, my sister's kids were raised to respect authority, follow the rules, study hard, get good grades, get jobs, ne responsible members of society. They both did well in school at all levels and both now have jobs that pay in excess of $85K. They save their money and are careful with how they spend their money.

Second, my cousin's kids - Three kids raised mainly with only home-schooling, never socialized well with others. There is nothing wrong with home schooling IF the parents know what they are doing. The problem is, my cousin and his wife, while intelligent, were not very smart in teaching their kids. Their kids are just the opposite of my sister's kids. 2/3 are mooches, leaches, on welfare, and have multiple kids who have even less schooling/discipline than their parents. At least 1 set is now back in regular school. She was quoted as saying "Momma's not a very good teacher." The 3rd one, on his 3rd wife, finally got one who knows what she is doing and keeps his kids on a short leash. They are turning out better than the rest of the clan.

So I see the current problem as the product of 40 years of BS social feel good child rearing. The "everybody's a winner and gets a trophy" mindset that pervades society today is just one of the reasons we have so many people who get all bent out of shape over piddly crap.

I raised a responsible polite and respectful kid, if I can do it anyone can do it, it's called spending time with your kids and teachin' them values, morals and respect for other people all the while instillin' in them the fact that they are not to just take anyone's bull and to stand up for themselves and defend what they believe is right.

I couldn't agree more my friend. I see the kids in high school driving brand new BMW's. 17 years old driving a $60,000 car?? What have they done to deserve that?? Sickens me.
I thank God I taught my boys the word NO from the beginning. Manners and being polite seem to be a lost lesson. Along with humility. Shame.
I do HVAC work and I'm in many homes throughout the day. It's nauseating how parents allow 7 year olds to run the house. Half the time I want to smack the parents to wake them up.

When I lived in Fords NJ, the largest exit ramp in the state, exit 129 on the PKWY exit 11 on the TRNPK and every major road went through it we drove $50 cars we bought from the junkyards off Texas Road in South Jersey, most kids made minimum wage, I think it was $3 something back in the 70s, I was workin' as a mechanic in the chemical industry in Newark makin' $15/hr when most of my friends parents didn't make half that. I spent my childhood learning a trade or 2 or 5 and that's what I did most of my life. I learned Johnson Controls when the new computer systems came out in the 80s.

The trades are dyin' everyone's a technician and specialize, no one knows systems just specifics. I've been approached by some of the adult vo-tech schools to teach, I consider it sometime, I miss the work but not the stress. Where abouts in Jersey is you territory?

I think the movie "Idiocracy" is more of a prophetic statement than a comedy:eek:

The likes of urbanedgecustoms reminds me of the teenager generously offered the use of a new sports car for the weekend but then complains to the owner of about having to buy the gas for it.
