I have it on good authority that the Sandshark OTF is going back into production

Agree. I owned a dead lock and it truly had no play but sold it as could not get past the "Conan" look and also was just 'too big'. I offered to pay for expensive custom build over a year if they would just get rid of the 'wings' and make me one that looked like a shark but they keep coming out with their same stupid 'new' builds that all look same. The other thing is not sure how dead lock achieves 'no play'. For all we know might have a rubber dam or something. i have 3 sand sharks and have dismantled them all and cleaned and while you can tune all play out up-down the vertical play remains. They were/are however higher quality than say microtechs.

This is the first real innovation in the DA OTF design in forever.

Yeah it's a very cool mechanism and you can see why it's so expensive. Maybe they will be able to simplify it with future generations of the knife.

Agreed, it's super cool. I do wish the handle wasn't so bulky though, or maybe I don't. It's helped keep me from buying one, so maybe I'm better off this way.

I love that G&G basically took a roller locked operating system from the firearm world and applied it to an OTF. That's intrinsically very neat, and is a clever solution to eliminating play.

That being said, I don't personally think minor blade play in an OTF matters, and I'd take an updated Sandshark over a deadlock if my state allowed it. Excited to see if this pans out.

How much were the Sandsharks when they were first released? Were they a production model? For the price of a second hand one now, you are better off just getting a brand new custom G&G!

The Deadlock is not the end-all-be-all. Sure, it is unique, but there are literally dozens of OTFs I'd rather spend money on before I'd buy one of those.

Also, why did you bump this old thread? You gave my hopes up that there was an update on the new Sandshark.

I'm comparing the Sandshark to the G&G since they both offer tight lock-up. Makes them unique.

The Sandshark's claim to fame wasn't about bladeplay, even though you could dial out most of it with the set screws...it was about strength and durability.

I'm glad to see someone else thinks this. I've had a few opportunities to pick up a Deadlock but never did because of how goofy they look and the 3.5 in. blade. If they redesigned the handle shape and went back to a 4 in. blade I'd be more interested. The Sandshark is eminently better-looking.

Right?! The blade to handle ratio on the Deadlock is way off.

It looks like a knife that a 13 year old drew up after reading a BudK catalog:D

Which China: the despotic police state Communist China, or Taiwan, the independent democracy? If the former, forget it.
Do you think they would say "China" if they were going to make them in Taiwan? Not. I have a few blades made in Taiwan. None of them are stamped "China." No one refers to knives made in Taiwan as "Made in China" that I know of.

I agree with you though on "no China blades." Especially a big fat HELL NO on anything that they want several hundred dollars for.
