I hope God allows...

I don't know everything, but I know this: No one I've met lives forever. I've had my dose of cancer (brain, go figure :p), and I'm a halfway-militant non-smoker myself, but I'm keenly aware of my own mortality, and I know for a fact that I'd rather enjoy my time here than be miserable and depend on a promise of happiness later on, even from the Almighty (and yes, I'm a believer). There are no guarantees in life. That being said, I'm not a total hedonist. I am a responsible, productive member of society, just not convinced that we can't enjoy earthly pleasures and still be Saved, in the Christian vernacular. I hope you can find your place.

1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If any one loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides for ever.

If things that you like/enjoy prevail over your obedience to God's Word, don't be delusional about your destiny.
I am sorry, but dreaming about bringing your questionable habits/lifestyle to the Heaven is just pathetic.

This is true... but enjoyment and love are two different -- albeit often related -- things. God created this world for man to enjoy. How must God feel if a man chooses not to experience the enjoyment which God created for him in a strawberry? God must be terribly disappointed by that. It is possible for a man to enjoy the strawberry for all that is is worth -- all that God intended -- without that enjoyment coming between man and God. To the contrary, much as a dog comes to love the master who occasionally gives nice treats, my enjoyment of a strawberry is all the greater when I know that the strawberry is a good gift from God for my enjoyment and that enjoyment only further endears my relationship with God. And how much more is that so when I think that as delicious as a strawberry is, the same God who created that strawberry for me has created something incomprehensibly better for me that is soon to come. The strawberry is but a foretaste of the feast to come. So, enjoy the strawberry, but keep your affection set upon the Master of the Feast.

I see your point and I agree. But enjoing the strawberry is one, and being trapped by the addiction, that does harm your body and alternate the state of your mind is the other.

I agree. Since God first put man into this creation, there have been things which are not good for man and man is charged to take charge of the creation which includes knowing what is good for man and what is not.

Nicotine is an insectacide. It's good for the plant and man may even use it to protect other plants of value to him. But, maybe nicotine isn't good for man to take directly. Learning that is part of taking charge of the creation.

So, am I the only one who finds moralizing inappropriate?

Yes, I guess you are. :)

The whole thread might not belong here, but moralizing was inevitable, given the original question. I think the premise is silly. Heaven will hold other distractions for the mind inclined to appreciate them, but Doug C. and Gollnick answered everything that's been brought up here quite well.

Moralizing I take as well-meaning but pass by it quickly.

You don't have to accept it and I don't expect you to. I just shared my belief and point of view. If I do wrong I'd rather admit it and prepare for the consequences rather than trying to hopelessly justify it by lying to myself.

I don't smoke; drink a little... I'm just hopin' that there's a section in Heaven set aside where I can walk with my dogs.

I hear you there... maybe I'll be able to play "chase the laser" when I see my kitties again.

In heaven, watching the laser dot for half an hour won't result in a blistering optical headache!

If I make it to heaven, surely it would have to be a lot like Russ Meyer's casting couch! If not, I'll see ya's in that other place. :D

I here ya, I plan on having animals all my life.

The bible makes references to a lion lying down with a lamb while in heaven. It appears to be in the context of animals in heaven, not just symbolic peace between natural predator/prey. I believe there will be animals in heaven.

Martin Luther is famously quoted as having responded to this question saying, "If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I don't want to go there." I suspect the remark was tongue-in-cheek.

As for me, I just hope there are Springer Spaniels in heaven.

Here is some info I have googled for you:

This is not an exact quote from scripture but rather a combination of thoughts from a couple of verses.

Isaiah 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Isaiah 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

Both of these passages deal with the kingdom age on the earth after the Lord Jesus Christ returns to reign on the earth as King of kings. The ferocious beasts (like the lion) will live peaceably with the gentle animals (like the lamb). Certainly, this will be a literal reality on the earth. However, this picture is also symbolic of the peace that will pervade the entire earth. When preachers speak of the lion and the lamb lying down together, they are referring to the time of peace when Jesus will reign as King over the earth.

So it's still deals with the Earth, not Heaven. But I am glad to see here people who are interested in the Bible and who belive in God.

If animals that people cared for while living are there, then my Father & Mother have a full house in Heaven. :) :D
