I just got a Benchmade 760

I heard the detent isn't very strong, maybe that's why it's tip down only...

I feel that with tip up, the blade has extra security from opening, due to it being against the seam of my pocket.

With a tip down configuration, I worry the blade will come slightly open and stab my thigh - if the retention detent wasn't secure.

Tip down carry only?! Well, another one bites the dust. More for you guys. It is a beauty though. Good luck with it.

Curious - that really is going to sway you from this knife? I never understood how some knife collectors sway away from a knife only for the reason of it not being tip up/down etc... interesting.

Why does this knife look familiar?
What "old" BM model does this most closely resemble? I cannot remember, but that handle....I've seen it before.

Pretty soon mine will have a Krein regrind toremove the tanto and make it a much thinner overall knife with a more traditional shape. It will be interesting to see what the knife ends up looking like when the regrind is done, as I am undecided if I want a full flat grind or a nice hollow grind with swedges, as Tom Krein is a master of beautiful hollow grinds. I love M4 steel as I have had a Krein custom in M4 for a couple years, and I really look forward to my first titanium framelock in that great steel with a bit of flair from a Krein regrind.

I'm thinking late 90's vpsaline.
I may be wrong thinking it was Benchmade though. I dunno.

How's the detent on the 760? I like a strong detent but I hear the 760 has a weak one.

It was a weak-ish detent. It did not take long for my resistance to take this knife apart to fail , so I did and gave the lock bar a little more 'english' , the detent seems better but will still flip out with ease if I want it to.
I'll tell you guys what , CPMM4 is some tough-ass steel ! It took me near three nights of fiddlin' on my stones to get the edge down to where it slices better , the blade itself however is still way too thick to be a conventional slicer. Also the hex bladestop was a PITA to get in the right spot , I recommend loctite if you ever have to fool with your stop.
I have grown to love my 760 though , it is a reassuring tool to have in your pocket for sure.
I now just need to find someone to regrind the blade some... :)
