I Just Ordered a New SAK and I'm Stoked!!!

i just got a Farmer last week and its replaced my Soldier id been carrying for years. i really love this thing. i have them stashed here and have given each of my daughters a SAK as well. everyone should carry one along with a larger folder imo

Previously, I have just never had the urge to buy a SAK. However, all of that changed a couple of years ago. I inherited one from my brother and shortly after bought an alox handled old soldier and it's been my edc ever since. It is not intimidating to non-knife enthusiasts and is just so handy for everyday chores. It may not be as cool as some of my other knives, but it is just hard to beat as an edc.

My favourite is the alox Soldier. I have many excellent knives that are more expensive, but the Soldier is carried most of all because it just works well and doesn't look aggressive in my office environment.

About:
The BEST one hasn't been built yet.
A One Hand Trekker WITHOUT the saw would be the cat's nuts.

Thinner and one hand open.

Well, I would go even farther: a one hand trekker, without the saw, with a PLAIN EDGE blade, and with a corkscrew instead of the philips screwdriver, that would be awesome!

It's great to hear all you folks that are believers in the SAK enigma. It's sorta nutty that I went so many years and never gave these pocket knives their due. I got one in a trade here in the exchange. A green Alox "Cadet". I laughed outloud when it arrived as though to hide some kind of shame for having this little knife. A week or so later I was going to friends house to help him add on to his barn. I decided I need some kind of pocket tool just in case. I grabbed the "Cadet" and was off. We (6 adult men) worked from 9am till 8pm on that barn. Every single man there used that little knife/tool a dozen times that day. It got tossed up and down from the roof too many times to count. It received 2 small chips in the blade and some scratches in the Alox. The blade sharpened right up better than new. But what was impressive was the knife was still tight and solid. It took a beating and was good with it. That is when I started EDCing it every day. Then I wanted tweezers and a toothpick. Then a saw and corkscrew. and so on so forth. I use mine every day at work and have yet to damage one. Anyone I lend one to has to know where they can get one that night. Some folks say, "I have one of these new in a box at home somewhere." Then the next day they are showing it off to me saying they got it as a gift years ago. The "Victorinox" brand alone has resparked my love for all things sharp that go in a pocket. I am glad to see others that enjoy theirs as well!!!! ;)

SAKs have the honor of being my very first knife. It was many years ago, I got it for a family camping trip, not sure which model it was, it had 5 blades if I remember correctly. After the trip, I ended up trading it away for a G.I. Joe figure. At the time I wondered if I got cheated, but in the long run, I came out waaaaaaay ahead! Still have the figure!

I'm really, REALLY close to ordering an Adventurer. No one hand, but same length blade and locking.
But the Centurion is ..black.. and liner locking.
Choices, choices.
If anyone wants to "chip in" that should be all it takes to get them to make them one handed. At least in my experience. :D

I love my SAK's, my EDC is a Vic Hiker. SAK's represent the best value around IMO. If you guys haven't tried one yet check out the Vic Swisstool Spirit X, it blows away my old leatherman, sog, and gerber multitools, only thing i'd change about it is to make the blade 1 hand opening. oh well can't have everything i guess.

Hey Kevin, did you have any luck finding the SAK modders over on the SOSAK sub forum?

Seals, if you like that model check out the Midnite MiniChamp. It's got the features yours has but also has an LED and some other tools (can't remember them off the top of my head right now).

A SAK was my first knife too, I believe it was a Huntsman. My friends at school also had a SAK and those SAKs helped us making shelters, making campfires and fishing. Now I have many SAKs and the number is still increasing.

I've carried a SAK Farmer (Silver Alox) in my front Left pocket for about 4 years now. Have a Arc AAA led light attached to it. Very handy.

I have had my first Vic SAK for decades - an old "Craftsman'. Years of use, and those scales got loose - sent it back and they returned it with new scales, etc - same innards, rejuvenated - gratis! Numerous tweezers, tp's, and a few scissors' springs, too - then - dull - unsharpenable by me, it grew new 'friends'. More SAKs followed - and when dull, ended up in my drawer, too. Finally, a Sharpmaker yielded a drawer full of sharpened SAKs.

I never knew they had such a wide selection. Below are two of my favorites. The 'Skipper', below, has the shown pliers, a bit lite for boat use, and a corkscrew, hard to use on a bottle of pop, otherwise is identical to the 'Helmsman', which I also have - and carry more. The blue Farmer see's more carry - never knew they made such a nice knife - until a few years ago. I have a sillver, red, and two blue Farmers, aka 'Smurf' Farmer, so one of them is my carry. I don't miss the TP or tweezers so much, but it needs scissors!

The blue ALOX Farmer is the rarer of the silver, red, and blue versions. I found two of them - in collector tins - with a $55 2xAA LED Vic/INOVA flashlight! I mention this because there are collections/kits available - often with a flashlight or an additional SAK - for a song. My two blue Farmer kits were ~$30/ea! Check the usual culprits - Target stores and Amazon - as well as the knife dealer's and discount stores. They are usually available around Father's Day, Christmas, etc.

Some folks lament the rapid passing of specialty SAKs - often in 'special' colors. I recently thought about getting an orange Farmer - a day too long - they were gone. I paid less for my silver and red and one of the blue Farmers total, of course, thus my 'thought' time. Seriously, there are some serious SAK collectors. They are a useful EDC, that's for sure.

I hear that, I've got two Huntsmans including one with the StayGlow scales. Perfect SAK for me.
I've posted this before but what the heck, here are a few of my collection.

me too. I have an old Vic "Officer" that I've had for over 20 years. It's just too loaded with tools and as a result I've never carried it. But i just got a Soldier and i'm hooked. This knife will go with me everywhere.

@NaturalMystic
Nice mod in that grey farmer (?). I like that clip style :)

I think that my favourite Vic. will be ... Spartan? It has blade big enugh to deal with most every day tasks. Rest of the tools is "essential" and works as well as blade. If not - swisstool spirit is taking care about the harder stuff. Second one is Rambler, tucked to keys - small with nice scissors, nail file and small philips screwdriver - good to dig in electronic stuff. Sometimes I'm dumping Baker's model into pocket, usually when going to the party with sheepies.
After carrying Cybertool I found, that I dislike bulky saks. Are too much for a conventional sak, to little for a multitool. Just like SUV - pointless (IMHO)
What's funny, I've just realized, that everyone in my family have it's own sak :D

Thanks!, Yes it's a Farmer with custom HAIII scales done by FelineVet and Scibeer over on the SOSAK subforum on KnifeForums. Scibeer added scissors and the low-ride pocket clip for me. Here are some more detailed pics of it.
Sorry, not trying to derail your thread Kevin but I know you liked this one too. :)

One of the Charm of Vics is the bladeshape very useful in EDC utility... its thin, good slicer and pretty tough (the alox soldier definately tougher than 91mm cellidor)

but i wish we could got a SAK with VG10 or S30v steel main balde though... wont be as easy to sharpen like razor like the current steel though hehehe

the down side is moslty the 84mm and 91mm series (and all the alox soldier or farmer) isnt OHT able and non lockable... but who would fight with a SAKs? for daily utilities even the classic or rambler are doing 99% of my task just fine...
