I like Doglegs

I see that most of the knifes shown are Dogleg Jacks but I just picked up this Kissing Crane Dogleg Trapper in Deer Stag from A.G. Russell. I give the opening effort a 5 out of 10, not too stiff, not too easy. No half stop and the full open snap is probably a 5 also. It has a good feel with the shape of the stag. The blades are stainless steel. Considering it cost under $40 it is a nice knife so I'm not complaining but...there are a few things about it. Overall it looks pretty good.

The edge grind is well done also

The stag is a little thin where the core is showing at the ends.

Then there is the filled gap under the stag.

And a little gap here but not a killer.

Not quite matched in thickness.

"The most elegant serpentine jack of all is a shape that Western States called the 'Eureka.'"

Good eye Blues (and waynorth)! I didn't think to crack my LG4 for this one.

I see a lot of patterns such as whittlers, trappers and jacks called doglegs but few, if any, have the end bolster that bends back toward the springs which to me is one of the requirements of being a dogleg pattern. It seems the term dogleg is used as a description of a bent frame or bolster in more cases than a actual pattern.

Indeed, mckgreg, people love to call "surpentine's" doglegs. I think "doglegs" are just a catchier name. (?)

Early Winchester dogleg. 3.5 closed, crocus finish on the shield side of the main blade. A few age spots here and there but in pretty good shape.

Mike, you still have my address, right? :p

She's a beauty!

Blues, you're just a glutton. We've seen your stuff--one more knife THAT nice and you might pop something!

I think calling a super mod a glutton is punishable by...hmmm...excommunication?...no...horsewhippin'?...no...banning?...uh, no...well, give me some time, I'll come up with somethin'. ;)

I prefer to just think of it as I Like Doglegs. (They are one of my favorite patterns.)

Ouch, I think I just popped something...:p

Thanks everyone. I was a little surprised at how nice it was when I got it yesterday. Maybe some Napanoch genes in that dogleg.

Doglegs to me have always been like the superb looking Winchester that Mike has shown above. Should we have to differentiate between front and rear doglegs.:D:D

I really need to get some better pics shot... Sorry:rolleyes:

Mike

P.s. They are a beefy knife: 1/2" thick.
