I like Ugly Wood - Weird wood for the Pasadena Show

I had a bunch of redwood stabilized, and got a couple of pieces with a really cool black streak in them. I am hoping to use this on a big bowie or fighter. I hope I can do the block justice.

Mark--

Since real spalted wood is the result of fungal activity, maybe you better dump this bum stuff full of foul bacterias on us cyberfolk who are miles away from you. We wouldn't you to get in trouble selling crap to folks in person. :D

Here are a few more I just sanded. More buckeye and maple.

Those of you who asked, I can put some of these in a thread tomorrow afternoon.

Here is an unusual 100+ pounder the burl hunters just brought in today. Any guesses what it is? Larry, I know you'll recognize it so don't tell.

Phil,
You should be watching for spalted mango where you live. Or another wood I saw photos of recently was macademia nut. Now that's some wild looking stuff! Not to mention the Koa. You have a lot of good woods growing out there in the middle of the ocean.

it looks neater than cutting up ax handles thats for sure!

and montana guy, if the neat stuff you have cracks you might be able to stablize it then experiment with collored epoxys or fillers for the cracks. it might not work but it might look really cool too...

I have no idea what that 100 pounder is but if it will always keep that purple color it's pretty cool

When it dries it keeps the pink and purple, just turns a little darker. The white areas will take on a pink/orange tint.

This is a madrone burl, but not a normal one. Usually madrone will form a big onion shape burl at the ground and underground level. We get a lot of the underground ones around here but still only on about 1 out of 25 trees.

This is an above ground burl that only happens on maybe 1 out of a few hundred trees and rarely this large. The above ground ones can have these cool pink and purple colors and the figure is different as well.

Mark, why no stabilized scales on your site? Do I just need to check back at different times? I'd like to buy from you, just curious to understand how.

Lately I have just been doing blocks. I can always cut a block into scales at no charge. Only takes me a minute. Early April I will be loading up the website with stabilized pieces. Right now my focus is on getting things ready for the show on the 19th.

I will list a dozen or so stabilized blocks in the for sale threads in a couple hours. If you want me to cut a couple of those for you, just let me know.

Your profile did not allow me to send a PM or email. That is why I answered in this thread.
