I like where Cold Steel is going.....BUT.

Cold Steel's clips have plenty of spring-back. Are you clipping your knives to your car's sun visor? This sounds like haters propaganda.

I've never had a CS clip give up or quit. I even mashed one on concrete with 400 lbs or so. Fixed easily. Even after a decade of Cary. Now, I've had other makers clips bend or break within a week or so.

Please don't push to turn Cold Steel into Spyderco. Spyderco is my other favorite knife company but I'd much rather keep it that they both do something a little different.

I guess ripping pockets is a feature that you approve of....

Exactly. I've never had a clip on a CS knife get loose on me. I've also never had one ruin a pair of pants, as of yet.

I wear out the knees and seat of my pants moving around on concrete long before any pocket wears out. I can't say that I've ever worn a pocket out. I'm one to make adjustments to my tools to better fit my needs. Two seconds with a piece of sandpaper and 30 more seconds with a screwdriver and my super grippy Recon 1 scales couldn't shred lettuce let alone a pocket in my work pants or jeans. If that's too hard for someone then maybe collecting anything mechanical isn't the hobby for them.

It's not like Cold Steel folders are the only ones that have needed slight adjustments. Both my Para 2s G10 were overly sharp on the edge. My FRCP Manix 2 had scales that were just a little sharp on the inner grip when I'd really put a strong grip on it. My G10 Manix 2s didn't need anything. My CS Broken Skull didn't need anything either.

The world isn't perfect. I guess I've just come to the realization that unless you make something yourself then you'll just have to make adjustments to what others have made. Funny, when you talk to a lot of custom knifemakers they seem to have started making knives because they wanted something that fit or worked better for them than what they could find on any store shelf;)

The clips are too stout. But they do break in after a while, it just may take a few pairs of jeans to get them where you want them lol. I did sand under my XL voyager clip and got it where I want it. Ive also stacked credit cards underneath the clip at night which seems to work too. They are strong, no doubt about that, but I would like a tone down.

The good news is that the clips don't bend much without keeping the shape. Within a month the clip should be bent to the point where there is no contact with your pants any longer. What eats your pants today will soon be a clip with no retention and falling from your pocket tomorrow.

The clip on my Kobun sure hasn't succumbed to this development.

Took the clips off my voyagers and gave the area under the clip a few seconds with a round grinding stone on a hand drill bit

I wonder if Cold Steel has seen what this obscure knife company came up with?

I like both CS and Spyderco clips, I sanded down the handle scales on the Voyager and carry the Pacific as it came from the factory.

can't complain on either!

im a cold steel fan and owner but folks who say they like the clips makes me wonder if they own any other knife with a quality clip and/or carry it and use it often enough to see why a good designed clip isnt like a cold steels. a good clip is good and cold steels are terrible in both design and application.

just like the crappy secure ex sheaths, i dont get why anyone would prefer mediocrity at best rather than cold steel making changes to good designs on their great knives? as long as everyone accepts mediocrity than cold steel will continue to do that with their secure ex sheaths and terrible pocket clips. so be it........

Cold Steel's clips err towards retention. You could be strapped upside down, to a giant paint-shaker and never lose your knife.
Too much? Bend and sand until you're happy. Too weak of a clip can't be remedied.

every properly made clip does. i have many knives from makers who can say the same thing and still be a useful clip. the rest of your statement is silly and so i won't bring that into my complaint, but i see your point.

I have EDC'd Spydercos probablly more than any other knife. Fishing, hiking, running, mountain biking and have never lost one due to the clip. But I have had issues with Cold Steel knives pulling them out when needed because it caught like epoxy to my pocket.

Your argument would be valid if loosing knives from other companies that do not do what CS does was an issue. But it is not.

in the end i think Screwdriver and i are on the same page or close to it in that we like our cold steel products, but want better pocket clips...nothing more nothing less.........and i'll add better sheaths than their crappy secure ex....but that from me only.

yep. cold steels clip designs are the worst combined with their scale textures. great knives but clips and textures are terrible. people end up sanding under the clip or bending the clip etc etc.

would be nice if cold steel caught on and did something about it, but its been going on for awhile and nada, so..........

someone will come along to tell us we just need to mod our knives and to quit whining and they like their shredded pockets and using two hands to remove their knife from their pocket and two hands to put it back clipped on the pocket, etc....:)

No need to mod the scales or alter the knife in any way...just know what you are buying. My Ultimate Hunter in XHP has a Strider CC type G-10 scale and the clip works perfectly and does not create any pocket shredding. It is really not that hard.

I am no CS fanboy but the newer CS models are better but I agree they could provide a better sheath with their fixed blades

I picked up a Rajah III yesterday and the grip is perfect. I would love to see this grip on the Voyager series....

A new version is coming with new texture. I personally think that the existing texture is too smooth...

Here's the comparison between the old vs new texture:
