Recommendation? I Lost my EDC. Looking at another CRKT or Treating myself to a Benchmade... Thoughts?

The Adamas is a big chunk of a knife, but so is the CRKT M16-04DB. I don't really have anything good to say about CRKT. Keep in mind though that the Adamas currently only comes in CPM-CruWear (I don't know if older versions had different steels). Benchmade states that it's 63-65 Rc hardness. So you'd better have some serious sharpening equipment and the corresponding skills or you will not have a fun time maintaining the edge.

Sorry about your loss of a favorite knife...
What do you actually need a knife for? Ask yourself this question, and then go shopping for your next EDC. if it won't fit your needs: the "best knife on the Planet" won't make you happy...

I haven't used either of mine to the point where they need serious work getting the edge back to popping, but for whatever reason (be it edge profile or property of the steel itself) the Cruwear seems to respond well to preventive maintenance. A slight bit of stoning on a soft Arkansas and a good trip on a loaded strop, and it really makes the edge sing. It was enough that when I gave myself an expensive kiss with it, I barely felt it hit the bone. I've pretty impressed with it all around.

That said, I wouldn't take a hard tool steel out into the wilds without a diamond stone just to be safe.

I’ve owned an Adamas and handled the M16 in the past. I will echo what others have said already, the Adamas is a far better knife. If you decide to go with Benchmade, you will be able to tell the difference almost immediately. CRKT products have their place in the knife world, but Benchmade is in a whole other class.

When I first started really getting into knives I was drawn to the M-16. Several years later and a Benchmade Griptillian is now my go to edc folder. CRKT is tolerable, but Benchmade is outstanding.

I had an M21-something (very similar to the M16) that got stolen along with a Benchmade. I thought the M21 was cool when I bought it, but that soon passed. I’d like to have the Benchmade back, but I don’t miss the CRKT. i now have an M16SFG that somebody left behind in a car that I bought. It is a horrible piece of crap, in my opinion. It’s okay rattling around on the floor of my car, but I would never carry it.

Thank you all for your input. I’ve always favoured a bigger handle in my grip then smaller. This my previous M 16 CRKT…
I’m gonna try for the Adamas. If only I could hold it before purchasing it…lol.

Plenty of grip and length on the new Sog Trident AT-XR. Just got one in January. Ergonomics are great. Just a suggestion. Know Benchmade is great though. Another great choice.

If you like a bit more handle in the hand, the Adamas, Freek, or Griptilian are solid choices in the Benchmade line.

If there's no dedicated knife stores in your area, check gun stores.

I have some EARLY CRKT ... And they seem fine ...
Including the M16 ... Cant speak for current production knives ..
But back when I got mine , they were I guess a Budget Offering ?

Certainly the prices have gone up , and folks are saying the quality is not matching the asking prices ?
Folks are saying that? Are you? You know some folks say the earth is flat too.

As someone who went from owning zero Benchmade Adamas', to owning three of them in about the span of a month, I can tell you unequicovally that the Adamas is a superior knife to any CRKT M16 ever made in virtually every metric: materials, fit and finish, easy of use*, and also, unlike the M16s, the Adamas is actually made here in America. As Steely_Gunz Steely_Gunz said, the large IS a big chungus, but if you like big knives, it's fantastic. The Mini's are excellent knives, making for a decent office knife if you need something smaller, lighter, and more unobtrusive.

* L.A.W.K.S. is flat out hot garbage.

what i didnt like about the full size adams was that the blade was so heavy it made the detent action weak and the blade would easily come out of the handle

I like my Parrot D2 ... Weight / Size / Performance ...
Real Steel Luna Lite D2 if you dont mind a slip joint , + there are other variations ..
But my D2 Luna Lite is a dream to carry ..
Currently Fidgeting the heck out of my Kizer Domin Mini = Slightly heavy duty for a pocket knife .. ( To be tested )
