Spyderco FB20POR Orange Rock Salt H-1 steel, overall length 12.2 inches / fixed blade length 6.7 inches, price: $175.00

Good for what you have described.

Defense against cats? What kind of cats you run into? Anything larger then a house cat you better bring a gun.

I think OP lives in an area where "cats" aren't quite so cuddly and cutesy and a little more toothy and claw-y.

Check out Buck knives. You don't state exactly what you want however Buck probably has what you're looking for at a price that won't bother you if it's lost. The 420 hc steel with Bos heating holds an edge well and definitely sharpens up easy.

lol @ knife for cats. With this kind of typing, that's the closet your getting to a pussy.

Damn... I literally can't stop laughing at the cat part. Lol is one thing going to write, but I'm like crying I'm laughing so hard!

Based on his name, he is from India or thereabouts. If he is kayaking in mangroves, in the Indian mangrove forests there are tigers, leopards, jungle cats, fishing cats, and leopard cats.

So maybe not so funny as one might think.

Don't come on here and ruin my fun and laughter! Just joking, of course. I agree with Sonnydaze, get a H1 knife and a lanyard for sure. Not much worse than losing another "100-500 dollar knife".
