I love Swiss Army Knives but their advertising is pretty funny

I got this picture in an email pushing Swiss Army Knives for camping. How well do you think this is going to work out for this dufus? The people in this ad and the ones setting up this shot have never spent a day in the wilderness in their lives, much less used an SAK for any task.

I mean... depending on what exactly he needs done and how much time he has to do it, it would be possible to do it with that knife. It's far from the best tool for the job, and I'd probably rather use body weight to break those pieces into smaller chunks to burn, but it's possible to use that saw lol.

What’s the problem with it? Isn’t that what the saw blade is for? 😂

Maybe the real joke is the saw blade itself!

The saw blade on an SAK is a good saw blade. I've used one a few times.

Personally, I find fault with his positioning of the wood on the rock. He's going to ding the saw on that rock by the time he gets done.

I have used the SAK saw effectively many times and for pieces of wood up to about 2 inch in diameter it works fine. My comment is about how he is holding the wood with one hand on the rock and trying to saw it a foot or so away. I don't think this is an effective way to brace the piece for sawing. He will be binding up in the wood with every stroke. A bow saw, a hatchet / axe or simply breaking it in the crook of a tree will work easier and faster, but this saw can be effective in a pinch. 20+ years of Scouting and Scout leadership have taught me that much. They should have shown a Boy Scout making a fire; A lot more of them are buying an SAK than people like this. I never went on a campout without a Swiss Army Knife of some sort. And I still have a Classic model on my keychain to this day.

It is obviously a posed photo by someone who hasn't used it before. He should have his knee on it, or angled up from the ground with one foot against it, and cutting right up close to his left hand. Otherwise it is going to move all over the place and be a very tedious job. Timber that size, depending on what state it is in, can be a little tough to just snap so making a cut part way through might be all that is needed. But I don't think it is way off - those saw blades cut like blazes through wood, plastic etc, and one of the reasons I have owned and used SAKs with them for decades. Just carried my older model Hunter today as it happens.

My wife is a maniac with her Swiss Army Knife saw. She’s used it for some ridiculous stuff and it’s never failed her lol. Her Swisschamp always accompanies her when she is mulling about the yard or visiting her 95 year old mother who still lives in my wife’s childhood home. She doesn’t give it much more thought, than it works for her.

Didnt know Rick Grimes did ads for SAK. Guess he traded it for that machete when all the zombies showed up..

Exactly.

Agreed, his technique and form are all wrong.
