Let just say first off that I enjoy Busse Combat Knives very very much. They are without a doubt my go to knife and will continue to be.

I recieved my new snfo in the mail today:thumbup: So I took it over to the farm to try it out. I compared it with my chopwieler in a little chopping and stab contest. The snfo performed wonderfully in the chopping portion of the test but I was a little weary of the stab and pry portion... Before I tested the knives I stuck the snfo in a tree to take its picture, when I pulled it out I noticed that the tip of the blade had taken a slight set:eek: I didn't really think anything of it and just dismissed it as being over protective of a new knife. Then this happened

This is right before the tip broke off. I stuck my chopweiler in the same manner and pry it out in the same manner.

I used the rat to dig out the broken piece of infi

At this point I just tried to kill it. I held the knife by the handle and smacked the blade against a wooden bench, thats when this damage occured

Overall I liked the feel of the snfo, and it chopped decently. The tip is waaaaay too thin to be considered for hard use. This sort of knife could easily but put in a real life situation where the owner could need it to dig or pry his or her way through some material. I have used my GW in the same manner with no ill effects at all. Also I know its thicker but I have pried the hell out of my FBM with nothing to show for it.

No worries though right? I'm sure Boss Hogg will want this knife sent back to HQ:thumbup: My only worry is this, if the knife is replaced will its replacement be succeptable to the same damage? Did the saber ground snfo have such a thin tip?

Be gentle fellow hogs this wasn't entirely intentional damage.

Btw all this damage occured over a period of about 30 minutes.

I'm guessing that's a custom from the latest Ganza? Are customs usually built to the same thickness/grinds as normal models?
I was planning to take my new Custom Satin Jack out and play with it this weekend, hopefully you're an isolated case. That sucks though, but I'm sure they'll make it good.

dang that hurt

but you know that.

Love that warranty!

Not sure what ganza it came from, I traded Lazlo Hollyfeld for it. He'll probably shed some light as to where he got it:thumbup:

If anyone thinks that I was being too excessive or used the knife in an improper manner please feel free to speak up. That's part of the reason that I brought it here. Most of you that hang out here are self made infi experts:thumbup: We are in my mind anyway:p

The mosaic pins probably aren't near as durable as the flared tubes. The first day you got it. That sucks!

Kdizzog6 beat me to it, those moasiac pins are much more likely to pull out as opposed to flared tubes. I would send it back in to the shop asap, Jerry will make it good with you. I would not consider a little prying with the wood as abusive. If I was going to use a knife with mosiac pins hard, I would want the handle slabs epoxied on, as well as pinned.

when you hit the bench; did you hit the metal frame?

or was it a bench out of that 100+ year old dry aged OAK you got there?:)

WOW! Busse's don't Break, AK's don't Jam, and the sun will rise tomorrow????? Man faith in humanity is faultering.. I never thought I would live to see the day a Busse BROKE> After Noss's test on the FFBM and all i've put mine through.. to see this is just a shock... UNBELIEVABLE! As far as your "abusing" it. I think your test were mild compared to what most put their Busse's through.. but at the same time, it also justifies to me my concept that BUsses' should be .25 thick INFI or no INFI.. I'm still going up to look at that pic... Are you sure you didnt' put it into a stamp press or shoot it with a .50 cal? Oh well, like you said, thank goodness for warranties, but... Still .... Its a Busse.. I'm really left speechless after this.. one of the reasons my Friend in SF bought his first Busse SH was because we could slam it into a tree then put your foot on and get into the tree with your weight on the tip.... "and that was A2 steel" This is the FIRST I have ever heard of a Busse breaking!

Busses breaking?

Rust migrating?

Old models returning?

INFI that doesn't sell??!!

Calgon, take me away!!!

:p :D

It is impossible that no knives will break. Some have to and I don't think it is surprising that it was not the usual pins or micarta or g-10 configuration. You cannot subject customs made of natural materials or complicated configurations to the same level of abuse as the combat or le grade knives. That is not to say that this holds true for all customs. Would depend on handle configuration and tip design

I really think it was just way too thin. Don't let this rattle you:thumbup: As far as I'm concerned Busse is still the last word in bad azz, hard use, worry free cutlery:D

you are totally IN LINE,, That knife got bad heat treat.. and she is so thin tipped.. No worries.. just send her in.. It happens..... Jerry will make it A OK!!!

Dood, that's pretty impressive. I never expected to see a picture of a broken SFNO!
Do you happen to look like the cat in my avatar, all ridiculously huge and ripped?
