I may be sinning here

I've owned 4 CR folders, 2 of them small Sebenzas. You will not find a better built folder anywhere, from anyone. I sold them all off in favor of Swiss Army Knives.
It all comes down to personal preference and what works for each individual.

As for ambi folders...I'm primarily right handed, but do some things left handed. Fortunately I use knives with my right hand. Guns are another story. I know how frustrating it can be finding something you can actually use with comfort.
You can make a slip joint or lock back completely ambi. Benchmade's Avis locks (and it's various clones) are another.

I think the attraction here is a combination of a few things:

1) Simplicity of the design
2) Excellent quality, fit and finish
3) Excellent customer service

Hi Jeff,

and as the Sebenza is in ATS-34 heat treated by Chris reeve, you'll tell us what do you think of it. (If you got some little chipping issue, no big deal, it happend before and get cure with some resharpening! :D)

About the clip, you got the "new" clip on it. Its original clip was very very simple. For the record Chris did not like the idea of a clip on his Sebenza.
So the first clip designed was not really usefull, then before Y2K he designed that "new" clip.
Be careful, sometime the stud get caught in the pocket and can open the blade. This is something to know about Sebenza...

The "classic" handle is not as confortable as the "Regular" handle (now discontinued). The regular got a convex back (like the back of a cat who is afraid) and the "classic" got a concave back (like the back of a stretching cat). The "regular" which was a improvement toward the "classic" is much more confortable as the handle spouses the hand.
(RC3 and Izula backs are all very convex, like jumping panthers.)

Cheers

Again, much thanks for the knife Nemo. I really want to put it through the paces and will for the next few months. And to all the rest let me say I am in NO WAY dissing Chris Reeve or the Sebenza. IMO, he is a God amongst the industry when it comes to quality and customer dervice. If the knfie industry was made up of only Chris Reeve style integrity then the whole industry would be much better off in my opinion. I just wanted obejctive feedback on the design since there are some thing I don't care for (personally) but I want to hear other opinions since I am going down the road of carrying this knife for a while.

They sure are great knives. . .

But I don't like them. For what I use folders for, the hollow grind isn't a detriment. However, I hate the slab sides. To be honest, that's one thing I don't like about RAT knives is how flat the scales are.

But I'm in the minority of having big gorilla mitts.

You are welcome Jeff ! :-)

Chris Reeve is a true gentleman and he puts a lot of his integrity in his production. The name of my sebbie "Honor" came from one of his most famous customer "Hunter Hsu", a taiwanese, who christnamed My Sebbie after Chris general attitude towards his customers and his fellow knivemakers.

For the record Chris made some flat ground Sebenza in 2001 but he stopped as he could not get an absolute control on the quality of the grind...

Something I really like is its rounded blade back. So confortable when you pushcust with your thumb.
One thing I regret is the missing spyderco hole in the blade. :-D

cheers

Now, that seems strange to me. I'd be interested in learning why he could not do this repeatedly. They type of grinder he was using?

I agree with you. The problem with 3D is it brings on more cost to the product.

With that said, I'm going to carry it for a few months to see how it grows on me and how it works.

:thumbup:It's one of my favorite folders, but then I like 'tip up' carry & I am right handed.

Keep carrying it.It may just grow on you.;)

In all honesty, I think it will. Like I said, the quality and ruggedness are just excellent!

I'm not sure of all the details but we were very excited ten years ago when he started to grind them flat as an option.
Perharps he did not have the tools for that and was having the blades ground some places else ? As a perfectionnist he could not stand it ? I don't know.
You can easily ask Chris or Ann directly.

I think only 300 flat ground sebenzas were made and they were all regular model in BG42 (a bear to get sharp)

He doesn't use a grinder, he scratches the steel off a little at a time with a diamond. Takes quite a few diamonds per blade too.

I like them the look the quality BUT I have nevr had a decent folder that did not do everything the Seb can do. If you are using the knife for its intended purpose I would say that there are in fact way cheaper knives that perform better for instance the Caly 3 will out cut any Seb. CRK's are masterpieces tho as far as quality and customer service BUT then again so is RAT Cutlery although that Jeff guy........

To each his own I guess but I have a flat side Sebenza and when I saw the Izula F I thought it looked a lot like the Sebenza a very nice simple folder. The blade lock looks about the same and I'm right handed and always carry my folders with the blade tip up. I have never had it open while in my pocket unlike the Benchmade auto that opens quite often in my pocket i don't carry it at all now. Why you would carry tip down? Wouldn't that require you to turn over the knife every time you take it out to use it? With that said I will most likely get a Izula F when it comes out. To make the Izula truly amdi. won't you have to produce two different knifes. Clips are easy but won't the lock be on the wrong side for left handed users?

Stay off the crack dude. Way too addicting. Snorting it in little lines is much better on you.

Can't do it boss, makes me sneeze and my mom yells at me for wasting product.

She says "There's little sober kids in africa ya know!"

Funny story: When we were in Colombia blowing up the FARC lab for the SWAT story, the Junglas used the Surfire folder to cut open bags of coca paste (base) that we were destroying in the lab. I didn't think anything about it and put it back in my pack to carry home. Got home and put the knife back in my pocket (without cleaning) and was out eating at a restaurant one evening, pulled my knife out for some reason, anda reasonable amount of white powder fell out of the knife that had been trapped around the lock and spine. Yep, coca powder. That was when I realized I forgot to wash the C4 and coca powder off the knife ;)

I seem to remember someone dressed the same as you, bearing a striking resemblance to yourself telling us the RAT story wasn't all that exciting. There haven't been that many times when I pulled a knife in a restaurant and had C4 and coke spill out of it.

Er, wait, y'all are going to get the wrong impression of me. . .;)

That is funny.
