I need 2 1/2" of cutting pleasure

I went to a fed/state run building just before Xmas for unemployment issues.
Foreseeing the knife problem, I left my typical g10 dragonfly and SAK farmer at home in favor of a tiny SAK classic.
The guards still confiscated my SAK classic, but told me I could pick it up on the way out. When I asked for it back, they obliged. However, he gave it back with a smirk and a "try not to get in trouble with this now."
I felt violated :p

I'm glad they accommodated you. I suppose it varys from building to building. I've been told in several that they won't hold on to it for me, leaving me to walk back to my car or bury it in the flower pot.

Thanks for the advice. I realize that there are times and placed where a "legal" pocketknife are not acceptable, like when I am going to a prison medical facility. Other placed are buildings that while not a traditional federal building may lease a floor to FBI or TSA offices. Not all of those buildings have metal detectors and a guard at the front door. In some cases yes I make it a point to leave any knife in the car. In others....well lets just say I don't walk in holding my knife between my teeth like I was an extra in the next Pirates of the Carribean movie.
The main reason I mentioned federal buildings is because by stating that I do visit those buildings thruout the week I was hoping to stress the blade limit size. Often when someone posts about loking for a knife based on size many people reply about knives that they like that fall outside of whatever limits the OP expressed. I was trying to avoid that and just get suggestions for knives 2 1/2" or less.
Again thanks to all for the input and ummm......NYC KNIFE LAWS SUCK. Everybody knows that the criminals don't care about the laws only law abiding citizens care and they're the ones taking it in the poop chute.

I got into that whole NYC knife carrying thing. This is what I do. In nyc i play it safe and carry a SAK. When I'm upstate or on LI (which is most of the time) I carry a Buck 110 (My favorite Knife). A lot of people will tell you that a buck 110 is not legal to carry or have in NY because it can be flicked open with some skill which is true, but the whole illegal in ny thing is all hog wash. If it were illegal why would they sell it in wallmart, hunting stores, places like dick's sporting goods all over LI and NY? Basically what i'm trying to say is go to a reputable store in the area you wan't to carry the knife around in and buy it from there. Go to the EMS store in NYC and look at some of the knives they sell there. They would not sell anything illegal that you can't carry in nyc. hope this helped

what is sold in a store has absolutely nothing to do with knife laws.. by your logic since shotguns, rifles and crossbows are sold are dicks and walmart i can carry that since its legal to buy in the store.. Just because a store sells something it doesnt mean you can walk around with it concealed on your person. It means you can buy it thats it..

ANY knife concealed in the pocket or attached by clip to pants is Illegal in 5 boroughs and can get you a summons or worse..trust me ive been a NYC cop over a decade..

listen i don't wanna hijack this thread and get in trouble with the mods but id rather tell someone the correct information rather than see them get an unnecessary ticket or worse..

NYS penal code states:
"Gravity knife" means any
knife has blade which is released from the handle or
sheath thereof by the force of gravity of the application
of centrifugal force which, when released, is locked in
place by means of a button, spring, lever, or other
device. [Note: In NYC, and potentially in other NY
jurisdictions, this definition is construed to apply to
ANY folding knife with a blade that locks open. ]

New York - Penal Law Section 265.01. A person is guilty of
criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when:
(1) He possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun
gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal
knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, metal knuckles,
chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type slingshot or
slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star"; or
(2) He possesses any dagger, dangerous knife, dirk, razor, stiletto,
imitation pistol, or any other dangerous or deadly instrument or weapon
with intent to use the same unlawfully against another; or
(5) He possesses any dangerous or deadly weapon and is not a
citizen of the United States...
Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree is a class A
misdemeanor.

How does every other thread end up talking about NYC knife laws? I think we all agree that whats going on there is screwed up, but the OP never even mentioned NY...

Except Denmark and New York City...

Yeah what's going on with New York? I see that no one is willing to ship knives there now...

started here

and i just corrected someone on carry law in NY since i don't want someone getting into trouble with the law via misinformation.. again very sorry but i don't want to see a fellow forum poster get into trouble

If you feel it necessary to have some sort of blade on you...why not a Swisstool Utili-Key? It's not a traditional knife, but the inch long blade will handle some small tasks. ALso, it looks like a key, and I doubt that anyone will be specifically looking for a tiny multi-tool in the form of a key. Not that I'm advocating using any sort of concealed blade...but it's something to consider.

And if it gets confiscated...it's like $7.
