I need a chopper

Choppers3.jpg

I hate ya !!!!:D

For the money, I'd go in this order:

Ranger RD9 for around $100
15'' AK Khuk for around $125
Or a Dog Father From Scrap Yard for around $180

You can't go wrong with any of them..

I probably couldn't agree more.
...
the dogfather is also EXTREMELEY comfy for long chopping sessions.
and as far as the browning... it may be an okay machette/knife/slicer...
but you can get way better choppers for the money.
(dogfather,chopweiler,rd9,HI kukri)
axes and knives are different all together.
which you want is your choice.
too small of an axe, and your better off with a knife.
AND I can't split long pieces of wood with an axe for the life of me.
but I won't get into that now.
:D

good luck.
most of the knives named are GREAT though.
I'd love just about any.

This was a good thread, because I am also looking for a good chopper under 200.00
I like the Ranger RD-9 where can I get one? I am sorry if someone posted where and I missed it.
Also is the Browning made in America? At this store it says Taiwan, could just be the sheath they're talking about, can anyone clear this up for me?

Yes, it is made in Taiwan, but it is well executed.

you just e-mail justin 9the owner) and tell him what you want and for some extra $$$ he can do semi customs for you.
he did a convex grind on my knife for 20$ for example.

but you might want to tell him to thin the edge out for you, they normally take some reprofiling to reach they're peak performance.

Thanks man,

I already sent him an email this morning, but getting the edge convexed sonds like a good idea

jlubas,

I was recently in the same market as you and ended up purchasing a Knives of Alaska "Bushmaster". I LOVE IT!

9.5 inch Blade, Nice forward angled construction. D2 Tool Steel, VERY light and a pleasure to use. Maybe worth checking out for ya.

Good luck
