Well I'm getting a gift for my older brother. He's a hefty guy, he thinks he's a mountain man :p well in a big way he is!! But I need to get him an EDC knife. He has a bunch of BIG knives that he like's to pull out... crocodile dundee style !!!! He use to have an ol' fashion buck folder that he put through hell, but he lossed it. So now he needs one that he could put through "more" hell.

So now I need some help from you guys'!!! Preferably a folder, but it needs to be bigg"ER". He has big hands, and he love's BIG knives anyway. But I also can't have it breaking the bank!!!! So any recommendation's?!!

Thanks

-Strider (take your pick but I like the SMF)
-Zero Tolerance (take your pick but I like the new 560)
-Benchmade ADAMAS

It's hard to give a more accurate recommendation without more defining parameters like use, cost, preferences...

Yeah I wish I could give more of an accurate preference. His use is just about anything and EVERYTHING!! So it needs to be tough enough to be able to take ALOT of abuse. And as for price's... I'm not to sure. I don't want to sound cheap, but I'm not exactly in a position to dish out hundred's of dollars on one knife. Even though I would love to, but I can't right now. I'm sure I will be able to soon, but not right now.

So hopefully something under $100??

But please keep giving me other recomendation's, just cause I can't afford it right now, don't mean I won't ever be able to. ;) I would even be willing to save for the RIGHT knife.

It sounds like your brother could enjoy a Cold Steel Spartan, or one of their other megafolders. The Recon 1 clip point is the same basic blade shape as his Buck 110, and in your price range. Are you sure he wouldn't just prefer another 110? It is still a good knife and a good value as well.

If he needs a practical tough knife, the Rat-1 folder from Ontario is a robust folder with a solid lock and is a very good value at around $30. It is easy to keep clean due to open construction and has a very useful blade shape.

Spyderco Gayle Bradley. It’s a bit more than you want to spend but totally worth it.

That was also my initial thought. Big strong knife and if he likes Crocodile Dundee style knives, the 110 with its traditional looks might fit his preferences.

How big are you talking? The new HK Conspiracy folder is pretty hefty, but if you want something really oversized Cold Steel is probably the way to go.

+1

Cold Steel makes some knives that take abuse and come in cartoon size (more like small swords).

+1 on the RAT-1 for a folder. If he doesn't insist on a folder then a Becker BK2.

My son is super tough on his folders - he's worn out two Kabar Mules (cutting ceiling tiles, breaking down cardboard, general mayhem). Having said that, he REALLY likes his CS Recon 1. That thing is holding together very well, continues to take a great edge, and takes everything he can throw at it.

Alternatively, how about a small fixed blade EDC - like this Becker BK11...

It's small enough to carry in a pocket (or around the neck or in a variety of positions) but beefy enough to take anything he's going to put it through.

...Preferably a folder...

The problem I see is that when I need a tough knife I reach for a fixed blade.

Folding knives are not designed to handle tough task, they're designed with folding in mind.

I would suggest getting him small, tough fixed blade belt knife.

Get him another Buck 110 because you know he already loves it, and a Becker BK-2 because it is the tough knife you described. You can get both from the same online ordering site for just about spot on your $100.

Here's the BK-2. Brilliant for big hands. Head on over to the Becker subforum for some great pics of it in action.

Another vote for some of CS's stuff. Rajah 3, Espada in G10, Spartan, Voyagers, Recon 1's, these are all within your price range and are tough tough folders

Sounds like a Cold Steel kinda guy. Check out their medium and large Espadas (the G10 versions). They have other robust knife models as well. It's a high value brand.

What's that large Chinese Spyderco? The Tenacious and Persistence's big brother. I can't remember the name, but it's large, cheap, and fairly tough.

I believe you're talking about the resilience.
I'd get him a Buck 110. It is a tough knife.
