If you can, write down everyones suggestion and go to a knife store or a knife show and handle them all. That is the only way you'll be sure that you're getting the one that best fits you.
My suggestion: get a sebenza if you can afford it.
Thanks, everyone, for the many good recommendations. Unfortunately, I can only afford to buy one knife right now, and I think it will be a Benchmade Axis! I will definitely get a Sebenza as soon as possible, too. By the time I save up for one, there will probably be another cool knife out that I haven't even dreamed of, and I'll have to decide all over again!

The Emerson la griffe is one of my favorites,it is easy to wear at all times,I have fallen asleep wearing mine a few times already.(JUST GOT IT THIS TUESDAY).If you like japanese style knives, check out RJ MARTIN(DROOL)
IMHO Chris you made the correct decision on the Axis.
Stompy, There is a thread here "Is there a better all around production folder than the BM 710 Axis or what?" I agree with OREGON DUCK.
I've got a couple Spyderco knives...most recently the Military...great knife as you know. In fact, I can't say enough good about Spyderco products. I've got a plain edge Starmate on order and while I waiting for it I got a BM 710s through MJ&S Knives..love the knife and appreciated the price and service from MJ&S.
