I need golf help

Beth Ann (A pirate pillaged the "e" for booty.), stop going to the range for a while. Find a few of the plastic whiffle style balls and start hitting off the grass in your yard. If you're a backhoe, go to the park so you don't ruin your lawn. Concentrate on the mechanics of your swing. Get to the point where your contact is solid and consistent, then go back to the range. You should be able to pick the ball up off the mat with no problems. The reason I say this is there is a mental block for most all new golfers when on the mat. This little piece of advice is offered from someone that used to give golf lessons.

There is no thinking in Golf. There is only doing.

Like when I hit softball, I think before I get into the batter's box. Same thing when I swing golf. Literally I go over in my head what I should do and then when I address the ball I shrug my shoulders clear my head and swing.

This was the first time I went to the range in a 2 weeks (I think). I have been hitting wiffle ball balls in my parents backyard and making divots so my Dad was not happy a sent me walking up the park. When I get back to my place I have a big backyard and will swing away. Thanks!!!

^:thumbup: Payne was a great golfer and a great man. It really sucks that he died. :( Peter Jacobsen is pretty cool too. Now I feel like going to play today. I think I will. :)
Payne was my absolute favorite. The day he died was horrible for me.
If you ever see the cd Jake Trout and The Flounders, pick it up. It is a great listen.

Since you're fans, thought you might like to see a shot of Payne on the course without the plus-fours (Olympic Club 1998)

If you're just getting into golf my best advice is to stop now while you're ahead.

If you must continue do get a basic lesson or at least some help from someone who knows what they're doing to watch you and instruct. It's way to complicated to advise over the internet.

Thanks.
Beth Ann, if you see a video of this man's swing. Emulating it would not be a bad place to start. One of the smoothest swings ever.

Today had a golf lesson from a family friend who was a golf pro at the local course.
I now believe "modern" art is less confusing than golf.

It is usually not a good idea to take your first several lessons from a bunch of different teachers. Find a good one that helps you and stick with him or her. Otherwise they will all collectively do little more than confuse you with a myriad of different or even conflicting instruction. Also, LEARN HOW TO CHIP AND PUTT WELL AND YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY LOWER YOUR SCORES.

Just give me a call. Here I am giving a recent lesson.
