I need some advice, badly.....

a person could easily put those marks on it by using a scotchbrite pad and scrubbing it against the grain of the satin marks, especially if there was grit in the pad. I would bet money that he put the marks on the blade during the washing (if the story is true).

I have some news to update, but only bad I'm afraid. I have not heard back from the buyer since I refunded his money via paypal on Sunday.

Since I refunded his money, I have read through all of my email correspondence with him. I could kick myself now, as I had already received the most telling clue in my initial email from him telling me he felt there was an issue.

I'm listing this first email message below, followed by the email message from him that I've already posted in this thread detailing the damage he says the knife had. The last items are some pictures he sent after I had initiated the refund process through Paypal. The email with the photos is the last correspondence i've received from him.

In the initial email he states that after washing it, he found an issue with it. In the second email he details the issues, and in the third email he shows photos of the damage.

You can call me anything you want, but there is absolutely no way the damage he describes and the damage shown in those photos could be camouflaged enough so that you wouldn't see it until after washing the knife. Granted the photos all suck, but you can see enough scratches on that blade to know there would be no way to hide it.

The only thing I did with it after receiving it from Busse was wipe it down with a Tuff Cloth. He received this knife from me just as it was in the photos I took of it and sent him prior to saying he would purchase it.

I think I know for a fact I've been taken like a rube. I wish I had waited a bit longer a re-read all of his correspondence prior to refunding his money.

Live and learn I guess...

Best, Les.

Les,

After washing and drying it appears you must have used it a bit? or do you have a Kydex sheath for it?

Regards,

-Nick.

Second email from him detailing issues

Les,

The satin finish has clear signs of use and it appears it has been sharpened, it doesn't have the normal Busse "factory" edge. The finish has horizontal scratches on all areas of the blade (from the spine to choil to edge) as if it was used. Plus, there are marks around the choil area as well.

Finally, the photos I received after initiating his refund via Paypal

Did you get the AD back yet? I hope you do!

You can get your money back from Paypal if you don't get the knife back I believe.

Contact Paypal CS.

Unfortunate situation man, I can only hope he send's you the knife back since you were nice enough to refund his money.

if this link is not okay by forum rules, please edit or let me know and I'll remove it:

That is an example of what a scotchbrite pad can do. not only will it leave a scratch pattern on a knifes surface, it can be used to apply a completely new satin finish. If a user has a steady hand and keeps his stroke patters parallel with the grit lines of the original finish he can generally get away with using it - but the very second he runs perpendicular to the original finish's grain he's made the knife look "used". Every scratch left by the scotchbrite pad stands out in contrast to the original finish.

I can attest to, that Les is the kind of man who goes above and
beyond what you'd expect. He proxied for me a while back and
drove a very far distance and never even hinted to me that he
wanted anything in return, I gave him a token of appreciation
for helping me but even then he found it hard to accept even that.
He is honest to the ultimate degree and would not mislead ever.

I hope it gets straightened out Les

Sorry about the trouble, Les. I'm hoping you get the knife back and that someone else who wants to use it buys it from you. Good luck.

Les, I'm sorry to hear that you did right and got screwed... Karma will take its course. Have you tried to take it up with paypal??

Thanks for all of the well wishes guys. And thanks for the praise Silverband, it is much appreciated in this situation.

I haven't done anything with Paypal as of yet, other than submit the refund. I am going to give this individual until this coming Saturday before I take any further action. I'm hoping he will step up and at least return my property, although I really don't want a damaged AD back with nothing to show for it.

I will update everyone this Saturday. If I don't hear from him by then, I will post this in the GB&U forum. Hopefully that will at least keep anyone else from being taken.

Thanks again and best regards to all, Les.

Damn, Les... :( I am so sorry to hear this and to see those images you posted from him compared to yours. This is a raw deal, and I must admit that I'd be very tempted to get PayPal to reverse the refund right away if this happened to me. It definitely looks like he messed up your knife and got buyer's remorse, no two ways about it. It almost looks like a bait & switch on his end with the amount of scratches and how dirty the one he photo'd looks... how can anyone be sure that it's even the same knife in his pix?? :barf: I hope that you at least get the knife back, but you deserve more than that for sure. PLEASE post a thread in the GB&U about this... If not now, then when you get the knife back. The Buyer deserves to get recognized for being a :thumbdn: ****head :thumbdn:.

---> For the record, I've done 2 deals with Les, myself... Both went as smooth as can be and I'd not hesitate for a New York second to do a deal with him again.

Les,

In my honest opinion, your AD looks to have been in perfect condition when you shipped it. Machine and grind marks are normal on satin non-custom shop Busses. All of my satin Busse knives came from the shop with grind marks. Anyway.....good on ya for bringing the knife back to avoid any further strife. Know this.....I wouldn't hesitate to buy from you. I have't done any deals with you, but I wouldn't hesitate based on what others here in the Busse forum have said about you.

BTW....check your PM's

Thanks for the vote of confidence Jaxx. Yes, I will post in the GB&U, but plan to wait until Saturday. For all I know he could have been hit by a bus crossing the street Sunday afternoon to get a paper.... (could my prayers have been answered?, ;)) And I plan on getting Paypal involved then as well if he hasn't stepped up...

Regards, Les.

Thanks Type00Rev for the kind wishes as well. I checked my PM's and didn't see one from you, did you send me one??

Best, Les.

Guys,
I'm locking this thread, only because this really isn't the appropriate forum for this. I would suggest that you start a thread in GBU, and if you want you can link back to this thread, or copy the appropriate info from this thread. I really don't want to move it at this time.

Eric
