I need some Hoggish advice.

Unfortunate and you certainly did the stand up thing...Not trying to be judgemental, but with kids and a family, if you have to start liquidating assets to come up with $200 in cash, you might think hard about the financial consequences of putting all your free cash into less than liquid assets. You might want to sell something to put a little cash into a rainy day account....

If you don't mean to be judgemental, the solution is simple: Don't be.

I believe the point Tyrkon made is that he doesn't want to take anything away from his money in any other area and he feels that his knives are disposible so he'll sell one in order to avoid any abnormal expense to his budget.

You can keep that to yourself, you don't know other people or their situations so it's not a good idea to be presumtuous.

I'm not trying to shake my finger at you or anything though :)

kuibo: I appreciate your p.o.v. And I would agree if that were the situation. I make a decent living as a Science teacher and we (well my wife) budget very well. I'd say better than most.

But, as pbusby pointed out, my knives are my little vice and I like to keep that $$$ separate. Regardless of how much extra we have as a family. I started this thread merely to get advice as to which knife people would keep if they could only keep one. You know, just to get some other views. Not to ask for $$$. What you see people doing here, offering loans, offers to sell me a knife at cost in the future, etc... is just how things are here. We are a pretty close knit bunch. That's what makes this place like a second home. :) Stay around and you'll see.

Yet another public spirited netizen!:cool:

I mean really ... where are we to go for our regular 'fix' of Busse-centered mayhem if Tyrkon sells his DF? Sure, Cobalt's great for real technical knowledge and throwing videos, and we'll always have pbubsy when we need to see back hair (I'm being optimistic here!) shaved with a big blade -- but I really count on Tyrkon for enthusiastic mayhem and general morphological rearrangement of the local environment.

Give it up, Tyrkon! Even if you insist on selling the DF, one of us will just buy the darn thing ... for a short time ... :D:D

Hey! I like it. Can I borrow that one? If it's not taken, and when I finally get inducted, I think "May-ham" would be pretty cool. :D

It is funny you said that today.

At the moment I'm so liquid I could probably buy another house (in San Francisco) with cash. But my knife budget is so separate that I passed on possibly a once in a life time knife today. Then I took a six mile run and when I got home I continued to run right to the phone to tell that guy that I was a moron and that I’d take the knife.

I don’t know yet if I have it or not. But my point is that although we may hem and haw over the purchase or sale of a knife it isn’t always because we are on the economic fringe.

Well put.

BTW: We need pix! (When you get that knife home that is. ;)).

There's nothing that I can add to this post that hasn't been said already. I have dealt with TL, and I too find myself willing to do whatever I could if he needed me to. The bigger point I would try to make is how awesome of a place this is and how great it is to be associated with all of you. The appreciation of the greatest knife in the world has brought us together and nothing can tear that apart...(pause while I hoist one to all of you) ahhhhhh, burp, TL, you are truely a man of men and certainly well respected. What more could anyone ask for? You are truely rich!!! Be well and good luck with your decision!

TL is a standup guy - truly an honorable man. I understand where you're coming from... the "toy" fund is separate from operational. If I make a mistake, then my toy fund might have to pay for it.

I would say sell the DF. **IF** it is only the pattern you like about the BATAC-SE, and not the thickness, sell the BATAC-SE. The BATAC will be around for a while.

Best of luck and my continued admiration that you did the right thing. Doing the right thing sure ain't easy sometimes. ;)

(BTW- I'd be willing to bet that a few around here would be willing to buy that DF or BATAC and resell at cost, if you wanted it back.)

Ok sell me the DF for $350. Then in a month or so when I am in trouble with the wife [ again] for buying soooo many knives and am scroungin for some cash - let me know you want it and I can sell it back to you for $195 :)

(at least that is how it usually goes for me .......)

Hang in there!

Thanks again guys. And all what you guys have said equally applies to each and every one of you.

I am selling off a few things that I don't really "need" so no worries. And then I had this idea...

I have these to dogs. Hmmmmmmmm.

IMG_1694.jpg

People might like a pair of slippers in off white and brown.

IMG_1696.jpg

Or a nice carpet by the fire.

IMG_1695.jpg

Or... Well, I'll let you use your imagination on this one.

:p:p:p

Those two look like they have grit. I'd sell them into service on a dogsledding team.

Oh boy if Amy see these they are HERS!! She has such a soft spot for such things. What marketing - did you see them eyes!

Tell you what - I will trade you for two teenage boys!! ! How much will my postage be? Take pay pal?? .......

Now that I have been rethinking my knife configuration I find my self wondering if a medium sized blade might not be the flavor of the day. Like a Steel Heart or Ratweiler. Hmmmmm.

So which one in the pic is the Steel Heart and which one is the Ratweiler???:D
