I need sugestion

i am also curious about the knots :) hey ! has anyone ever braided carbon fiber like a girls hair braid and made handle material with it?

Knots will give to carbon 3D effect....Imagine all that small look like cloud circles...
Braided carbon fiber like a girls hair braid ............well thanks , I'm in trouble now ! I need to talk with my daughter and it never turns out well....especially when I ask for something from her
This is I believe 12K carbon .............several pieces together will make ..................No way I will do that now o_O

For look/appearance Fredy ........................I can t find picture of carbon scale i made like that , it is madness how that look.....
How many hours of work per scale? 🤔

Looking forward to hand wowen carbon weave, now you can't show us anything less then 12 strains braids 😅

You can make excellent handle with this .........google carbon fibre sleeve

It is time to finish this , instead of amboyna burl I used antler . Amboyna scale i have is too pretty to cut it in piece ,I will use it for scale ! My daughter will engrave something in that antler , If everything goes well . After 48 hours we shall see what i done with this :)

Your setup looks promising
We will know in 48 hours , Fredy . Mold was to big /to much waste carbon/ so I insert two pieces wood from sides .But that make another problem , pushing carbon under tang .So first I put thick layer on bottom /antler was glued to bottom / insert knife and close mold from that side .Then thick layer on top and pressed on press , then open cover put more carbon .....mess :)
From leftover carbon I make one piece for guard and rest I press in that syringe to make some pendant maybe and that give me excellent idea ;) When you press on syringe , the epoxy and air comes out and carbon remains , perfect !
5 ml syringe dimensions are 4.6mm inner Dia and 47,6mm height .....don t you think that is prefect for pins ???? In Monday I will buy dozen and I will make pins , marble carbon pins 🤣

PS . the wood you see in the picture is the one I promised you...it was attacked by worms. I have never seen such tiny worm holes in wood , too bad! They are nice , but ...................sorry !

Well 48 hours is for 20 Celsius not for 34 in shadows . Look good so far , no voids :) Now it is in oven on 75 Celsius for several hours ...............the instruction says so ?
Wax done nice job , it was easy to disassemble mold .

even this kind of press can put some serious pressure ......

no pins yet

lot of waste carbon , I used Covid mask for protection and she did an excellent job, clean nose and tolerable in this heat. How did I not think of this before?????

^that's pretty cool

^that's pretty cool
Thanks my friend !
Well it starting to look like handle , from here hand sanding to shape that handle .I like it so far , maybe I should have left tips of pins a little thinner/sharper .........

I wish I had surface grinder when I worked on this knife , tapered tang on this 5mm thick M2 tang would look great ...well next time :)

If anyone is wondering why I don't protect blade with tape while I work with epoxy , it is easier and faster for me to clean the epoxy than to remove the tape .60 hrc blade would not scratch 65hrc blade , so .............
I clean that mess in minute

I use bronze knife just for front of guard

That's turning out great!
Thanks !
I didn t mentioned , I drill several blind holes in guard from both sides , deep around 2mm to act as hidden pins and there is channel all around that antler in middle + carbon in pins .That carbon is there to stay forever !

There is still hand sanding to do , but that's enough for now. I'll leave it for another occasion. This project tired me too much, mentally tired me. Fortunately, everything turned out well in the end. The bad news is that I have two more to finish 🤣 One twin to this one and one integral from 52100 ..........Gone fishing 😇

wow, natlek, great job. I also put a lot of ffp2 masks in the shop for visitors. Occasionally I grab them as well, when I dont feel like wearing a respirator. Handle looks great. Good idea on the pins and inlay.. Some epoxies call for second hardening at around 80c, cures them to to be fore flexible or hard, depending on the formula.

I think that I know what I will do with other knife , carbon fiber for handle and that ellipse from Kevlar and since the first one has crescent moon pins, this one will have stars for pins .First I will mold carbon fiber on handle , a place for an ellipse filled with wood in the shape of an ellipse. Then I will shape handle to finish , remove wood and fill that space with Kevlar and wrap with transparent adhesive tape with sticky side to the outside .No additional work after that , Kevlar does not like sandpaper . If it doesn't turn out right, I'll have to do it all over again . Look finish on this small piece from syringe .It is shine as it can be ,same finish I will get from tape , tape will push Kevlar inside and will follow handle shape .That larger pieces of carbon on picture I make that way, pushing the carbon with my thumbs into the mold and then closing both sides with wood. There is more epoxy inside than needed, but this is not an airplane wing, so it is not important . It is important that there is no void ...............
That's a theory, we'll see what practice says 🤣

Now I have question , I decide to distal taper that tang .To do that I need to remove guard !! If I can found where is pin I can remove guard intact .HOW I can find something that I can t see ? Any idea ? Maybe if I heat with torch guard some different color would show up there ? Guard have perfect fit on ricasso I don t want to destroy it ??
Both /guard and pin/ are from 304 stainless ?

excellent !!
Thanks !
I failure with the carbon knots, they were in the box for a long time, carbon is elastic and the loops expanded. When I mixed carbon with epoxy, many knots came loose because of that........... I assumed that it would be a problem ,but there's no way I'm going to tighten all those knots again :D
I will make scale with knots soon...............
