It wouldn't be too hard for someone to figure out who the someone is that you mentioned, using info here, on the web, and maybe not even requiring a bit of footwork. There is just no good reason to mention that someone owns class III weapons in a widely read forum like this, at least without their permission.
Many company policies usually apply if you're on site or off site provided you're on company time, and as previously mentioned most companies have rules on knives, rules that often do not allow sheath knives to be carried. Our company policy allows folders with blades 4 inches or less, but once in awhile someone in our department will bring in something, a USMC Kabar for example, to show to others. Strictly speaking it's a violation, but since we haven't had any incidents with people walking around with Kabars and the like it's ok for us in our department to do so as we know and trust each other. Someone walking down the hall or sitting in a room with a Kabar would probably create a security incident, and would probably result in more strict enforcement or possibly a review of the policy on knives. The rules are probably even more strict off site as we are company representatives, whether we like it or not, and it would cause yet more problems if someone ended up getting arrested for walking around with a sheath knife.
I don't think that anyone will complain about an interest in knives, almost everyone uses and has some sort of knife, as long as you're safe, legal, and abide by any additional policy that you've agreed to obey.
