I have finally made my convex blade decision. An Aurora in White Bone with Black Liners and some extras.

Dear God there are a LOT of handles to choose from. TOO MANY really.

It had to be ordered through a dealer which means it was not in stock. As usual Mike at BRKT was very easy to work with. I am originally from Michigan - so it felt good supporting a Michigan company.

Now I just need to learn to convex sharpen - and I will post a LOT more when I get it.

looks like a good knife, i havent heard anything but good commments about the aurora or bark river in general, even though i do not personally own anything from them. looking forward to some using pics!

Barber,

I did so much research on my particular wants. This one really seemed to fit the bill. My choice was shaped by:

Large enough handle to be comfortable for large hands.
At least 4 inches long - but not so long that it was a chopper.
Strong enough to baton with.
Thin enough to slice well.
Wide enough to be able to 'choke' up on.
Large enough 'butt' to not slip out of my hand when slicing.
Little maintenance on the edge. (steel stays sharp)
Easy to sharpen (not so hard of a steel that it is hard to sharpen)
Good warranty.
Made in America (not imperative - but it would be very nice)
Bushcraft in mind (spear point - or decent drilling point)
Lanyard hole.
Tough scales.
Looks nice.
Deep Bushcraft style sheath that has a dangler or can be made to ride lower on the belt.
Firesteel holder

I think I have all of this in this knife. My Koster has nearly all of this - so it will be interesting to pit this against the Scandi Grind and see what I like most.

Nice choice.
Thanks for thinking of us Michigan folks that can't escape to greener pastures ;).

It's a great knife, it's pretty much been my only woods FB since I got it last May.

Another "feature" is that only weighs about 6 ounces but is still a very sturdy knife

Culpability. Don't blame us.

Haha.

Sweet knife.

The Aurora is a great knife,

…it’s really geared toward the big hand and works well for me.

I suspect it will serve you well. ;)

There are some good videos about Convex sharpening out there, a good place to get the basic is from the stuff on Derrick’s site (okbohn), look here: Sharpening Videos

Thats a Sweet looking knife 'Ol Bud  I've been wanting a knife from BRKT just haven't pulled the trigger yet :p Can't wait to see it in action !

You will see it in action when I get it! I will be sure to do an in depth review.

I was happy to be able to order a MI product from a MI vendor.

I just ordered a ivory micarta from Derrick. If the handles of this knife, does not fit your hands, you have some STRANGE hands. It, and the Kephart, has some of the most comfortable handles, I have ever felt on a knife. I bet you will like it. Might even need a spare!

Congrats on buying an AWESOME knife!

Can't wait to hear some of your thoughts on it once it arrives in your hand.

Here's mine is Osage Orange along with a Mikro Canadian

Very nice looking knife congrats mate, i've often thought of getting one but for now i'm resisting (barely).

I like the old school Cowboy riverboat gambler look the handle choice gives. (Well that's what I think it looks like, others may say it looks like a pimp's knife but no me)

Sweet knife. The handle seems like it is for a giants hands. Would it fit smaller hands as well as it would bigger hands?

Varg,

I may have to get a matching Canadian or some such blade as a companion to my Aurora.

Royal,

I agree. I didn't think 'riverboat' but I thought 'classy'. It just looks 'right' to my eyes. I think the black liners will really set it off too.
