  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

I ordered the BirGorkha village models -- and blamed all of you.

Me too! I don't really care on size either. I just want a Villager! :)

Alan
who always missed out when the Villagers came to town last year

I don't think you'd be lying if you said we were all raving lunatics. Based on the response, you may have to quadruple the price and be prepared to break up some fights when these hit the forum.

(i wanna little baby 14 incher and a ...... and a.....)

I want a VILLAGER TOO!

They think we're crazy? That's too kind. If they're mad, we're probably decadent swine. And Crazy!

Still no confirmation of the order. I think Pala, Gelbu and Bura are on a rampage in the shop. Email from Gelbu said he and Bura were leaning on everybody, work stopped, and nothing going on except threats and continuous barking from Bura. An angry kami can spend 8 hours saying (barking and swearing) what I can say in five minutes.

Stay tuned.

Whew!! Sounds pretty hot in there.

Is it typical/expected for Nepalis to try to read between the lines?

our customers are DEMANDING that we make some khukuris like our kamis would make them for use in the village.

Maybe a misfire? (with possible breech failure)

possible interpretation A:
"For some reason the customers want to buy unpolished knives just like those made to do daily work"

possible interpretation B:
"The customers are so upset with the failures that they accuse us of making knives inferior to a common village knife. They think that we are passing low quality stuff on to them, because unlike a next-door neighbor, they cannot confront us with a poor product and have it re-worked."

Like the essence of what Firkin said: The same words are interpeted many ways across the boundaries of language and culture.
Perhaps an action would speak louder? Maybe it's time for a small goat feast at BirGorka ...just to stop, reassess, direct and refocus??? (positive method, not negative :) )

Maybe it's time for a small goat feast at BirGorka ...

I can see it now...Bura with one of his thin bladed knives "Done right" and one of his buddy's not done "right" and a couple of goats.

Bura: "First I will try the 'brand-x' khukri"...(chop)...

On-looking crowd of kamis: "Ewwww!! " :barf:

Bura: "Now my khukri" ...(more of a slice than a chop)...

On-looking crowd of kamis: :) Applause :)

Nepali BBQ and beer:)

Of course you do know the brand-x khukris have a purpose.

To be used on captured Maoists ;)

Bill Paxton has a good idea. I'll spring for the price of a goat. Let me know how much it is in US $, and I'll PayPal it to HI.

Anyone who would like to join me can share in the price.

Howard and Paxton have a great idea.

Any way to get an extra factory blessing ceremony done outside of the usual schedule where forumites can make donations to pay for the goat and whatever else? Does that work religion-wise?

I'd hate for the kamis to think we're comfortably sitting over here, putting the screws to them for a couple of mistakes made while they're living and working in the middle of a civil war.

I'll back up my words with a few $ too :) Uncle Bill, if this 'feast of a new start' can be brought about & HI thinks it would be a good thing, please let us know...

I'm in. Its a great idea, nobody feels worse after having a good feast!

(edit)
Durnit I meant everybody feels *better* after a good feast!

I'm willing to chip in on the goat, especially as barbacoa is a personal fave. Share the joy.

S.

Thanks for generosity but let's find out what's happening before we start organizing a Bishwakarma puja for them. I have not heard anything back yet on the village model order and I doubt this is a good time for a festive occasion like the puja.

The goat is not a major expense anyway. We bought a good sized goat when I was there for about $35. The total cost for booze, goat, and everything else couldn't have amounted to more than $150. This took care of 30 or 40 people and there was some left over.

uh, perhaps I should say I sent some $ to HI to pay for a goat.

Sounds like there are still a few expenses left associated with a puja to reflect on recent events.

Even if there is no puja, BirGorkha may need a mascot. ;)

Since Howard was kind enough to donate the goat, I sent along a little for some rum. Wish I could take my smoker and do the cooking, not to mention some of the eating (and drinking!):D
