  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

I ordered the BirGorkha village models -- and blamed all of you.

I doubt this is a good time for a festive occasion like the puja.

DHOH!

Didn't know that it was necessarily inappropriately festive.

All I know is they deserve all the prayers and blessings that can be sent and requested, and I thought some form of those familiar to them brought through our efforts might be way to help them better cope with their current situation without wounding their completely justified pride.

In such matters you and Yangdu surely know best.

Once again I'm amazed at forumite generosity:) But I really don't see your reasoning on this one. What would the Kami's think? Kamis "we made a bunch of sub-standard blades, they ask for VILLAGERS?!?! and NOW they want us to celebrate? Celebrate what!?!" I don't know, I could be full of it on this one?

I think the most important thing, like Uncle said once before, is that the kamis realize that the reasoning goes like this :
======"the need for fast money for HI demands fast khuk production. The villager style is much quicker to produce than the standard khukuri. The mistakes made on the standard model are the result of pushing you to work faster than is possible. This is noone's fault, and HI customers, many of whom are craftsmen themselves, realize this. Noone can be exected to turn out Flawless khukuris like the ones you make at ridiculas rates of production. The villager idea is a chance to make khukuris up to HI's standard, without all the polish and finishing work, thereby cutting production time where it CAN be cut. HI customers are always excited by any new designs the master kamis produce and the villagers will be no different. Orders are already flooding in for these knives that don't even exist yet!"===========

Sincerely,

HI's customers and loyal friends

Tell me what you all think of this.

I don't know, I could be full of it on this one?

I don't know what a puja is to tell you the truth:o But I was just saying that if it is a festive occasion, they might wonder why this would be the time for it. Read quote above again--its most likely true:)

Would going back to the rougher finished khuks put any of the guys who do the polishing out of work?

(I see that you went back to the seaweed pic. :))

I see that you went back to the seaweed pic

Yeah, the pistol wasn't really "me", I mean I like the pistol, but not really as a symbol of who I am, or something like that:D Now seaweed, THAT'S more like me:D;)

I got email and they said they would make the village models but wanted to ship them via seamail -- sometimes 3 or 4 months. I'm not sure of the reasoning here.

ship them via seamail -- sometimes 3 or 4 months. I'm not sure of the reasoning here.

Minimizing cash outlay for a project they don't have full confidence will pay back as well as ongoing things? Maybe they expect them to sell for less than imagined here or not to sell very well.

hmm....

Maybe if we prepaid they'd ship them via air... that should let them know they'll sell...

A thought; the Kamis would rather fail, become 'insolvent' doing what they do best than doing village knives. ?? Don't know.

The explanation is probably simple. The profit margin is smaller on the village models, too small for fast shipping, and the shop needs quick cash for the move which means more expensive knives now.
