I'm almost afraid to post this for fear I'll ejected forcibly from the forums,...

I have a United Cutlery Survival Knife called the Little Protector from the 80s

It's has a hollow nylon handle, a working compass, and a 3 inch (or so) carbon steel blade. I've carried it for years in my fanny pack alonng with an SAK rucksack and various Beckers, Ontarios and SOGs.

I once used it as a handle to jack up my Toyota when I couldn't find the Jack handle.

:o I know, wierd.

I didn't think anyone here would ever admit to actually owning a United but most likely 90% of us here have had one. In some ways they have many fond memories for me. I start thinking of Sho Kusugi and Rutger Hauer for some reason anytime United comes up. I guess it was because as a teenager these knives were the first to really appeal to me ( I was a teenage mall ninja:foot: ). United is like that really ugly girl you slept with in high school and all your friends teased you about but then they had done the same thing.

I've got a lot of slipjoints and several in the $100 range, and one I really like is a Boker "Magnum" (their low price Chinese line) that I bought for $12 on ebay. It's a big sowbelly stockman with red jigged bone scales and the fit and finish are excellent. The blade steel is 440A, which is perfectly fine as stainless goes, especially on a slipjoint. At least as good if not better than 420HC, in my opinion.

Great thread!

My Beretta Busfield. It's put together as well as any Spyderco, and with the thin micarta handles and the clip removed, it's as thin and unobtrusive as an Al Mar in my dress slacks.

I also have one, it's one of my favorite knives. Perfect size, beautiful fit and finish. Also, love the Persian trailing point. I've been told it was made by Moki, a top manufacturer in Japan.

Great "unknown" knife.

Gosh - I've got a few:D

Gerber EZ-OUT/Gator - great yard/beater tools - they've held up remarkably well.
Schrade Badger - lightweight, "many" character marks
Grohmann Feather Light - riveted pivot, but has earned it's keep.
CRKT/Crawford Falcons - I have both small and large in PE - they've earned their keep. Yes, they are AUS6, but they sharpen easily and nice to use.
Cold Steel Ti-Lite/Zytel - just got this a few weeks ago - it actually works really well as a sandwich knife and just plain fun to fiddle with.

Japanese Carpenter Knife - got it from Lee Valley - this thing is crazy sharp, laminated blade, not that well built, but is pretty handy - definitely a utlity blade. Actually, I have two of these:)

Japanese Rooting Knife - got this one from Lee Valley as well. I think it dang near broke the bank at $7 or $8 CDN:D Fixed hawkbill'sh, thin blade, SE but cuts up sod, iris bulb roots, branches, etc for yardwork. My wife uses this one a LOT in the yard.
