I payed too much, but I finally scored one.

It's a real dilemma when a extremely rare Buck comes up for sale..Some disappear within minutes of being listed but few last long unless a seller has a extremely high price and will NOT take a offer. But I have seen in the case of BG-42 112's years will go by with absolutely none offered at any price then 5 pop up in a 90 day period! I actually enjoyed the 10 year hunt for one and when I finally found one it was a little bummer that the 'Quest' was over. I'm glad you found one of your Grail Bucks! I had a seller tell me once "Be careful what you offer I might take it "...

There's really nothing like pulling out a stag-handled knife. You don't get that feel from any other type of scale. I've got a few horn handled knives, but for special occasions I pack along my stag handle 501 and another brand's American-made stag handled toothpick (just waiting for the BOTM to be a USA stag toothpick to replace it)

Damn! how could I forget that they offered the 305 in red jigged bone ?
The only one's I've seen were 1988 dated and didn't have engraved bolsters though.
It looks just like the Buckbone, but in red.
Did they call this red Buckbone by chance ?
It is actually part of a set in a felt lined soft case with "Redbone" embossed on the cover. So... "Redbone", as I recall.

Happy Hippo the BG-42 112 was a great 112 rarity with only about 100 blades made thanks to Joe Houser back in 2002. It was a blade 'replacement' program but I'm guessing about 20 were put in new 112's ..If you are looking for the ultimate BG-42 112 a Buck employee had about 4 blades made with a 'Custom' script tang stamp instead of the Andvil. He sold them to a well known Customizer at the Blade Show in Atlanta sometime around 2008 maybe? I seen just one this last year in a nickel silver frame with Mastodon Ivory handles with a very well done Mastodon engraved on the bolsters. I consider it just about the ultimate 112 ever made.

Great info - thank you !

Everything always seems to move at a snail's pace when it's coming from florida.
It was mailed on Saturday and hasn't even left Pensacola yet.
I have gotten better at being patient when it comes to waiting for things I order, but it really annoys me when they're not even moving.

works the same coming to florida from cali..unless in la or san diego or major hub area. those little town areas take extra week plus to make it to big city hub to come this way.

Interesting.
In my little town everything I ship seems to go out quickly.
Maybe my local post office and the distribution center for my area are just relatively efficient ?
I don't actually ship a lot of stuff though.

yep. it's all a hub closeness deal and type of service paid for. for example when Buck ships to me I get it in 2 days max typically. can't get much further than that in distance. it's 2900 and change miles.

that of course isn't talking shipping choices. you can pick faster or slower choices to save money.

It must not have gotten scanned at every stop or something because it seemed to be stuck in Pensacola the past few days now suddenly it's at my local post office here in Norcal ready to be delivered this morning.
