While I still wait for my Boker Plus Apparo knife to show up in the mail, I have continued to peek at what else is out there in it's genre.

This one by 'Wall Knives' seems pretty nifty...

It looks like it has a soldered sealing at the guard, like what one sees on Randall Made knives πŸ‘

You should order a Randall 18. Yes there is a long wait, but you will recieve it long before you find a good deal on a Buck master.

I have to admit, those Buckmasters have shot up like crazy!
The Randall model, although very nice, just doesn't tickle my fancy.
The Buckmaster does, and if I had a choice of variant, I would prefer one of the later forged blade versions, rather than the earlier machined from stamped out blanks.
Oh well, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a decent deal on one πŸ‘

Here are a couple pictures of the later drop forged blade versions.

Many collectors seek out the earlier versions that were made from stamped steel blade blanks. They seem more popular with collectors because they were the first type they made, and because, (I believe), the earliest versions were made in more limited numbers.

That said, I would prefer one of the later drop forged versions, mostly because I like the appearance of the forged blade.
Also, the forged blade versions tend to cost a little less than the earlier stamped steel blade versions, so that would be a win win situation for me.

As for my incoming Boker Plus Apparo knife... although it was received by the USPS as a Priority Mail package, the tracking still has it as pending for acceptance. It's either lost, or somehow delayed, but no way for me to determine one way or the other. I was hoping to have received already, but seems hollow handle survival knives are playing hard to get with me.

When you receive your Boker Plus Apparo, you may want to check out the Spec Ops Combat Master sheaths. It should make for a nice upgrade from the original sheath.

It's just being purchased as an addition to my collecting hobby, so the sheath will not need to be any better than what it comes with... But thank you for the heads up anyway πŸ‘

Well, so much for the Buckmaster idea... The seller just contacted me to try and have me cancel the order on my end because he had sold the knife on another site, and now had no knife for me. Ugh!
He's now got to figure out how to reimburse me the money... Ugh!

I can't stand irresponsible stupidity πŸ˜”
Oh man I'm so sorry. Keep looking. They do show up from time to time. It took me a couple of months but I did find mine right here.

Thanks... I think I will keep searching for one. I hope to run into a good deal on a good specimen.
I'd like to have one, but I am not going to bite on one if it's at $1000.
They are not all over the place, but they did make over 100,000 of them, so they are not that rare either πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Holy crap, I want to say I picked mine up for around 400 dollars or so. It came with both the sheath and the compass. There's no way I would drop 1K on one. Patience is a virtue or so they tell me...

Yes, sir! πŸ‘
The above deal that fell through on me, was going to set me back just over $500, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

While I was looking over some pictures of the Boker Plus Apparo survival knife, I noticed that they seem to be serial numbered? I have not read about that anywhere, but apparently they do have them.
Now I wonder what the purpose was for them being numbered. I haven't seen them listed as being a limited production item, so maybe it was a way to track them back to a certain batch if any issues would have arose after they were out in the market field?

I'm pretty stoked about seeing what these knives look and feel like in hand.
I received an update on it's delivery this morning, tracking showing it back on track and to be delivered to me sometime today πŸ‘

I received mine yesterday. It does have a serial number. It is quite the chunk of steel, sharp ,fit and finish is good. The sheath looks nice, but It is laughably under matched to the knife. All in all an excellent purchase for the price, thanks for the heads up.

Awesome, and thanks for your shared thoughts on it πŸ‘

While doing my hollow handle survival knife research and perusing, I ran across this Knifecenter blooper. I figured I'd share it here to give you folks a chuckle.
Take a look at how much the MSRP was, it now being one heck of a bargain price! πŸ˜…

I have received my Boker Plus Apparo.

I had read on some websites that the knife was made in Asia, made in China, and even made in Taiwan.
Well, I was hoping it would say made in Taiwan somewhere, but clear as day, on one end of the box, it reads "Made in China". That was a bummer for me πŸ˜”
But, then I unsealed the Boker box and started inspecting the knife.
The rest of that unboxing experience was pretty positive πŸ‘

The knife has a decent sharpened edge. The entire knife is made of steel, except for it's solid aluminum screw on buttcap, it's rubber O ring seal, and the string wrapping on the handle.
Although this knife does a nice job of resembling the handmade knives that the late Newt Martin used to make, these licensed production line renditions are obviously done using mostly modern CNC machinery.
Everything is rock solid, and it does feel like a tank of a tool. I think they did a nice job of paying homage to the original maker and his design with this budget friendly production rendition. That said, the blade's fuller shows all sorts of milling marks and would have made the knife look so much better is they would have cleaned those up. The rest of the blade does not show such milling marks.
It has a serial number, #2581, (which makes me wonder how many of these were made).
The blade is marked as being 440-C steel.
One side of the ricasso is marked with the Boker Plus logo, while the other side has the Martin Knives logo, (nice touch). All markings were done with laser.

Anyhow, here are some pictures of it...

I agree with what others have said about the sheath. It's made of leather, and it's not really all that bad... Well, if it were for a much less beastly knife. But, for this knife, it just feels way too mickey mousey. But, not something I didn't expect, since it has been said in many reviews out there about this package.

Well, I now have a hollow handle survival knife representation within my collection of "interesting objects".
It having cost me about $90, (when the shipping cost is included), it was a pretty darned good deal πŸ‘Œ
With they now being discontinued, and Knifecenter having purchased Boker's remaining inventory of them, they will soon be hard to find new at other vendors, and will then only be available on the secondary market.

Btw, I do still see these knives being offered on other vendor's websites, and they are mostly being priced in the $150 to $180 range.
But, with Knifecenter having purchased Boker's last ones, the ones remaining in other vendor's inventories, are the last of the Mohicans.
