I propose a new rule in the exchange section...

Should sellers be REQUIRED by the rules to post pictures of their items for sale?

Don't you guys hate it when ever you click on a sales or trade thread and you see that there are no pictures of the items available? That is my biggest pet peeve here on bladeforums and I know that there are A LOT of other fellow members who agree with me on this aspect as you can see here in my past thread regarding this subject. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1127784-Word-of-advice-to-sellers

Technically, the rules do state for sellers to post pictures. "4. Provide as many photos as possible, in the best lighting possible. It's always nice for buyers to see what they are going to get." However, it does not state that it is against the rules for sellers to not include pictures.

I propose a new rule. All sellers should be REQUIRED to post pictures of their items for sale. If the seller has failed to obey this rule, the seller's sales thread should be closed down until the seller can provide pictures. And by pictures I mean pictures of the actual item for sale. Not just stock pictures from Google images. From what I understand another knife forum already has established this rule and strongly enforces it.

I understand that bladeforums is probably the biggest knife related forum on the internet and there are a lot of sales threads every day. It may be a slightly bit difficult for the mods to enforce this rule for all sales threads. However if we report every sales thread with no pictures we see, we can be sure to enforce this rule quite efficiently and above all effectively.

So yes or no? Should sellers be required by the rules to post pictures in their sales threads?

I would say yes. I always make a point of taking the pictures before I put any item up for sale. Seems like lots of people put the item up for sale and say they will put pictures up later. By putting up pictures it will help to answer some of the buyers questions (centering, lockup, steel type, etc) I have also seen a person post "email sent" because of no picture and wanting to confirm something before purchase and by the time the seller responds someone else has taken more of a risk and said they will purchase it without seeing pics. Just my opinion...

I say yes and no, but voted no overall. Yes for customs or handmade knives, but no for production knives if they are brand new and a good description is posted, so overall I think I would vote yes as there is only one or two circumstances that I would not really need pics. If used or custom, or handmade then a picture is always good. Sometimes however email or phone works better for some people when it comes to pics.

I also voted no. Pretty simple to me - no pics, no buy. Leave it up to the seller if he/she wants to limit their potential buyers. I also will not buy from people who do not cover shipping and Paypal fees. JMO.

I think those who sell without posting pictures greatly limit those who would buy from them. When I want to purchase a knife I want photo's to look at so I can make a quick decision. I usually will not even ask the seller for photo's if there are none in the thread. I like a quick clean sale instead of waiting for the seller to get around to sending me photo's especially if several others have asked before me. It does bother me when it is a knife I know I would be interested in but usually I will just pass. Should it be mandatory? I say no because I think they are just hurting themselves.

I have converted, changed, 100% .. If the gentlemen who called me out would refund my $70, and stop stepping where I don't. On their post. Respect is all that matters. And I respect your right to post what you wish, on any subject.
Nice if we all used real names. Hello mine is RB BLACK, collected knives 45 years, and I am no more or no less than anyone here. Even without real names I see you here, the same knife on other sites, and for some reason people think they are something else on each site. This is not transformers, or hide and seek. I am very easy to contact, and enjoy meeting people who are here for the actual knives. Every deal I make I send my phone number, and address before any money is exchanged.
Thanks for opening my mind. Truth is a big % of this forum is about deals gone bad.. And the mods never rest. Someone posted they would just go elsewhere, no they all will not, a lot already banned on the Bay site. I once traded there with you.
Sad we need MODS to control men of honor.

I think sellers should have to post tagged pictures stating their BF name and date. That also helps eliminates scammers trying to sell a knife they do not even own.

I have never posted a single picture in my sales threads and trades and let the feedback speak for itself. That is what email is for during the deal. If someone is serious based on the word picture written in the sales thread they'll get pics during the deal. Just my lil 2 cents. We have enough rules, the Mods already do great work and I thank them for that. Why make more work. Pics are a personal choice a "Should" not a "Shall".

Besides, I'm too dumb and lazy to learn how to post pics.

so funny a registered user stated this, I vote no, zero, none, not any non gold or higher member, be allowed to post, buy, sell, trade, respond, in any form to this site. They can only read, and then just the center section, No exchange, no community. They do not have the single most used tool in selling, trading etc, the PM. Why are they allowed, because greedy sellers want their money. That is not o.k. with me. CERTAINLY THEY SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO PURCHASE ITEMS, WHICH IS DONE DAILY. THE ONLY RULE THE FORUM FOLLOWS, AS DEALERS ARE STACKED DEEP IN THE EXCHANGE AREA, MODS KNOW THIS, AND SINCE SELLING IS RAMPENT IN THE TRADE SECTION, MODS KNOW THIS, IS THE BANNING OF MEMBERS LIKE MYSELF WHO PAID $70.00 for zero rights, or protection. I have zero buyer protection, zero trade protection, the only thing I can do is post, same as gold member. Or a non-payer if I post in trade section and use email, which is a must.

LASTLY I PROPOSE :::::::::::: ALL SALES MUST BE CONDUCTED USING SITE POST AND PM MESSAGES, ALL TRADES MUST FOLLOW SAME RULE. UNTIL THIS IS DONE, THIS SITE, BLADEFORUMS, EXCHANGE IS NOTHING BUT A KNIFE WAREHOUSE FOR SELLER/DEALERS/AND EBAY MEMBERS. RB BLACK, the real treesharker, has proven this many times, it is easy. Also members here have no ideal for a large part as to how many double accounts, one account selling, the other bidding, that exist on this site. IMPOSSIBLE to monitor. Mods do a superior job, a great job, a thankless job. However their hands are tied. WHEN YOU ENTER THE EXCHANGE ZONE, YOU HAD BETTER BE PREPARED. SCAMS ARE AT EVERY POST, WAITING. THOSE NON-PAYING MEMBERS PRESENT THE MOST PROBLEM AS WITHOUT HISTORY AND SITE INFO. THE PLAYERS CHANGE DAILY. If you have email, you can log into Bladeforums and pm from there. The need for email is 100% B/S.

So funny a platinum member stated this.

This. I personally wouldn't try to sell without good photos, as I greatly appreciate it when someone I buy from does the same. But if someone wants to limit the number of potential buyers, then that should be up to him/her.

Though it is annoying not to have pics posted, I voted No. Creating a rule for this would just be another mess for the mods to deal with.

We'd just go elsewhere. Ourselves, our knives, and our GAWs and leave it all to you and those of like mind as you. The internet is a big and wide and deep space, and I'd just move on.

Life is too short for you to get so riled up over something so insignificant.

I vote no. I am against more rules in general as I get tired of hearing "There should be a rule/law for that!" whenever someone can't be bothered to think for themselves. If I don't like the way a person or business conducts themselves then I don't do business with them.

Most of the things people complain about in the exchange can be avoided if a buyer does their due diligence to ensure the seller meets their criteria. If you don't like the style of someone's listing on BF, you should just move on rather than have a fit about it. Seems pretty simple to me.

I also don't get the constant hate against registered users. There are many longtime, respected members who are registered users and there have been paying members that have screwed people over. Paying membership should give you some privileges (which it does) but it should mostly be about supporting something you enjoy. Being able to afford a membership fee doesn't make you a better person.

Oh yes Yes YES!!! More rules!!! We need more rules!!! Without rules we are left to rely on nothing but our own discretion.
Just to be perfectly clear - this is a no

While I like the idea of always seeing pics, I don't think it should be required. I think the free-marketplace works that out itself in the end.

For example, when I click on a sales/trade thread and there are no pics, I generally don't even consider it - I close it and move on. Heck, I don't even feel like clicking on links to some hosting site for pics most of the time (call me lazy? Or busy!). But if enough potential buyers do that (and I know many of you do), then the seller may not sell his/her item, or maybe they'll just get tired of constantly emailing pics to people who wouldn't have bee interested in the first place if they had seen pics to begin with. And, hopefully, they figure out why! Post Pics! It's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (but not required)... My 2cents.

Well put. It is pretty simple.

Often it probably isn't even about being able to afford it. In the last three months the value of my giveaways have equated to at least a platinum membership.
