I propose a new rule in the exchange section...

Should sellers be REQUIRED by the rules to post pictures of their items for sale?

That was a great read Rev! I can't believe I somehow managed to miss this thread. I appreciate your concern to this matter as well. It seems that the majority of the people who posted in your thread were in agreement to make this new rule happen.

You wouldn't have found it, that sucker was deep, deep, deep underground. I think I posted pictures in all my sales threads except one. I follow the idea that no pictures, no deal. I need to see the actual item being sold. I have also started to just buy from people that I know well from the forum, folks that post frequently and know me as well.

Often it probably isn't even about being able to afford it. In the last three months the value of my giveaways have equated to at least a platinum membership.

Buying memberships is totally voluntary. Yep, but let's not confuse giving things away to the members at large, to buying a membership that pays for the servers and bandwidth costs. Two very distinct things. What I've done is given away memberships, best of both worlds. YMMV.

No to mandatory pictures, even though I always do pics and no links. I think the mods are busy enough .
I'd rather see a rule that says if you say you'll take it , and don't ,you have to edit your post. Maybe that is already a rule. I try and follow common sense rules. it seems to work when I am using common sense . Emotions suck!:grumpy: well accept this one :)

No.

People are more likely to buy a knife if they can see a good picture of it. I think that is enough incentive in itself to post pictures. Also, the seller might prefer to send pics to a serious inquirer via private communication.

There's no confusion here.

I also voted no. Pretty simple to me - no pics, no buy. Leave it up to the seller if he/she wants to limit their potential buyers. I also will not buy from people who do not cover shipping and Paypal fees. JMO.

2nd...or 3rd...or 4th

Why is it that pretty much all the replies are for "NO" but the poll is saying "Yes"?

I have said it before and I will say it again, my feedback speaks for itself. I do not believe we need more rules and give the mods even more on their plates. If you don't want to buy from someone based simply on a lack of pictures, that's your choice. I believe that if you are selling a BNIB knife or other gear there is no need for a picture as long as you are honest.

Now now Carlos, you're probably one of the only guys here that I would gladly buy with confidence from, pics or no pics.

By the way that LaGana VTAC is still going strong. ;)

I voted yes.
The rules do say the knife being sold must be in the sellers possession so prove it,post the pics and be upfront about it.

Besides..everybody loves pics right?:D

I cast my feeble little vote for requiring photos. I've been on forums for other of my hobbies that have very few rules, but they did require photos or the sales threads were immediately deleted.

I read a lot of threads where someone says to email them for photos. If they have the photos and they can't figure out how to post them, I wonder if there are other aspects of their sales post that I should question. But mostly it just annoys me and wastes my time when I open a sales post and there are no photos. I'm not going to buy from a sales post with no photos, and I'm not going to waste my time emailing for photos. I immediately go to another thread but as slow as the forum can be sometimes I might have wasted 30 seconds of my time on that thread. As many of these threads as I happen to open with no photos, that is a significant amount of my time gone.

If people are against more rules here, then I propose that we add a rule to require photos and offset it by deleting another rule somewhere else.

Good point, JCP. Maybe we should instead require proper grammar and punctuation - that would really keep the Mods on their toes!

Because with this post there are 35 total posts (and each of those doesn't have a "yes" or "no" response) in the thread but in the poll 75 votes have been cast.

Someone posted they would just go elsewhere, no they all will not, a lot already banned on the Bay site. I once traded there with you.
Sad we need MODS to control men of honor.

That was me, and I've never dealt, via eprey or otherwise, with anyone from Lake Norman, NC including you.

I voted No, it may increase the sellers odds of a quick sale if pictures are posted but it should be an individual choice. If I'm serious about a purchase it's no big deal for me to ask for pics via email.

I would like to see a requirement for pics and blade length. Blade length is important to many who live in states where there are laws governing blade length. Many, many ads do not include basic specs (they assume everyone knows all brands and models). And I get tired of PMing sellers for basic info. It comes down to sellers not knowing how to sell. A seller should make it easy for a buyer to say YES, not make it difficult.

Seems to me that not providing photos and details is more work for both parties. The potential buyer has to PM or email and ask for photos and details, and then the seller has to reply. Back and forth. Why not just go ahead and put 'em in the sales thread to begin with for efficiency?

Big problem with a brief ad with little information followed by "PM me for pics and info" --

If I want a knife but can't say "I'll take it" because I'm not sure what he's offering, by the time I get a response from him to my PM, someone else may get the knife.

Like The Borg said, "A seller should make it easy for a buyer to say YES, not make it difficult." :D
