I pulled the trigger...

I got mine today. I went with maroon handles and black blade. I got the black leather sheath and the fire steels. The leather sheath is very nice! Over all I really like the knife and accessories. However, I was dissapointed with the finish on the handle of the knife and the kydex. I expect a higher level of finish. It's not what I have come to expect from Bark River. The knife has what looks like tracks in the powder coating from a gear or something and the kydex is excessively wrinkled in the area where the steel goes. I've never seen a Bark River so messy. I'm not sure if I should return it or not because I really like this knife. I'm thinking I can learn to live with it because I do like the knife.

How can I bring out the color of the handles more? They seem a little "dull" compared to the pictures I've seen.

I did go ahead and put a piece of tinder quick fire tabs in the handle. Does anyone else plan on using this space in the handles?

Woodstock--

The "wrinkling" in the sheath is actually what we intentionally did to allow the sheath to hold the firesteel even after it has a little bit of wear.

As to the marks on the powder coat, just send it to me and I will swap it out with you. No problem.

The handles are "dull" because they are matte finished. You can polish them or put some wax on them to bring out the color.

mine came today too!!!

Initial impressions are good. I really like the knife, and just as I thought, it looks great in a cord wrap!! Mines Black with an OD cordwrap....

Sheath is nice, holds the blade very well. Knife is typical Bark River razor sharp.

Derrick- thanks for getting these out so quickly to us when you got them. Ive said it before, an Ill say it again, KSF is my goto for all things sharp.

Thanks!!

Review and pics to come tommarow!!

I did not read closely and thought the firesteel came with the knife. :o

I have a thin firesteel from GoinGear but I don't think it will fit. The BR firesteel must be reaaaly thin.

I manage to get it started but it pushes the blade. Maybe it just hangs out the bottom.

I'm jealous! I'm hoping mine shows tomorrow. Thanks for posting these pics guys, they'll help make the wait a bit more bearable. It looks like red was a hit with the W&SS crowd (that's what I ordered too).

Here's a couple pics of how it's suppose to work:

The firesteel requires a bit of technique inserting into the sheath.

It was a challenge to be able to put them both tgether in one small package. You put the firesteel about half way into the channel and then put the knife in. Then push the firesteel the rest of the way in. After that, you can put the knife an and take it out without any issues.
