I received my "Needs Work" today, and DANG!...

The knife's also made a few appearances on the show "The Unit" -- I think i may need to pick one up...

Please allow me a silly question. I saw a video somewhere of a guy opening a "needs work". In the video he hits the flipper twice. On the first flip the blade open a little bit. On the second flip it opens the rest of the way. The only kershaw I have is a chive that opens with one flip of the flipper. Does it take two flips to get the blade open? And does this knife have a safety like on my chive?
Thanks for indulging me!

It takes just one flip and there's no safety.

My girlfriend's Needs Work only needs the one press of the flipper to open, and it opens FAST. As a matter of fact, I can't use the flipper to partially open it at all. If I press the flipper, it's OPEN. No safety on it that I know of, but it does take a little more pressure to open than a Leek, for instance.

I saw that video on youtube too. I think the guy's finger just slipped a little bit when he tried to open it. I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Not just pictures of the knife alone. the knife on a piece of wood something. The knife with a gun any creative thinking

OK, here you go, knife with gun, on wood.

Great knife - the automatic opening broke twice one mine so I just get rid of the torsion bar and use it like a flipper - it works.

How common are broken springs on these things? I just ordered one last night. I still think it'd be a cool knife with the bar removed so it was totally manual, but this will be my first AO, so I'm kinda looking forward to that feature.

I have an extra torsion spring for my Cyclone(s), and if the spring for the Needs Work is the same one that goes in the Cyclone, I don't see how it could break, as it's a pretty simple, stout spring.

Thanks. Sounds good. I like the idea of keeping an extra spring handy "just in case", though. Can I just order one from Kershaw or how do I go about getting one? Sorry, this is my first foray into Kerhshaw (and AO) territory.

Kershaw tests there torsion bars to 10000 openings. I've only had one break on me. If you do break one, they're a snap to change out and you can call are email Kershaw and have one in about a week. Acually you'll probably get 2. Seems Kershaw always sends them out in pairs.

You know, I think ill buy one of these for my father for christmas. He is a landscaper and goes through dozens and dozens of box cutters every year. I figue ill give him something that will last a bit longer.
