I received my "Needs Work" today, and DANG!...

I found myself wishing the blade edge was below the handle, which I think would be a bit nicer for kitchen work. But it is a really nice knife.

I agree, I do a fair amount of box and light wood cutting and find that if the blade was more in line with the handle it would be much more comfortable. Still a great feel in the grip and sharper than any other blade I've ever had.

GAWD, I love this knife! It's light, comfy, sharper than heck, and the F&F is probably the best I've seen in this price range. Kudos, Kershaw!

Overall I like my Needs Work which I scored on Ebay for $21.50 shipped, from someone who didn't like it all that much. I really like the blade, that's what drew me to the knife. It comes in handy for sampling BBQ at my buddy's place.

I'm going to attempt a rescale, as the factory scales feel cheap, and thick to me. I'm also thinking of reshaping the scales to make the handle longer, as well. More to follow...

I agree with everyone who says Kershaw should make a larger version of the Needs Work.

By the way, I'm new to the site, and I like it a lot; lots of good info. I look forward posting my future projects here.

I know what you mean about the feel of the scales. They do have that hollow "click" to them if you tap on them with a finger nail, but I don't really find them "cheap" feeling, just different from most other folders I'm used to. Time will tell how durable they prove to be, though I don't anticipate any problems in that regard. Seems several people are bothered by their thickness, but I don't have an issue there. The knife slips in and out of my jeans pocket easily, and the scales give a good grip in the hand. I really, really dig the knife as is, but I look forward to seeing what people come up with in the NW handle scale thread.

Btw, welcome aboard!

I guess I'm one of those weirdos who likes the handle (scales) on the Needs Work. I have pretty large hands, so I like the thick grip that it presents to me. Also, I don't see where the "plastic" scales on the Needs Work feels cheap (or like something made in China that sells for $5 at your local gas station)...To me, there is a solid feel to the Needs Work that goes way beyond it's price-tag.

ok so i just got one of these today (you know who you are, Thank ya ;) ). first impressions are, working sharp (yeah it would take me down to the bone if i messed up, but isnt as hair poppin as the Lahar), nice grip though i have found it hard to get a good grip with all my fingers (blasted large hands. prolly in the same boat as you glockman lol), fit and finish is good considering the price tag, and the shape is growing on me. oh ya! i forgot, it is also the hardest hitting AO knife i have ever seen!

it will be a user for many years i am sure :D :D :D

good job Kershaw!

I've had mine for a little while. It's not my EDC but I carry it when
I'm at home. Use it in the garden/green house, limbs, just about anything.
It's great when you have only one hand free and need it.

Being my first AO, I can't compare it to anything else, but I can tell ya I sorta jumped the first time I hit that flipper. :D
Yah, it IS nice being able to own, and carry, a "legal switchblade", huh?.:D.

I have quite a few AO's and I still flinched when I hit the flipper. :D
Just love it.
