just got my ka bar bk9 in the mail and am going to return it first thing. opened up the box, pulled out the knife and first thing noticed that the blade was ground with a GIANT dip near the hilt, making it look some sort of a pirate cutlas. next the handle has some sort of smudge stain on it, and is offset near the hilt. the blade is warped, and and bent on the swell. I hate to say it but I cant beleive that ka bar mailed that peice of crap to me. I am very upset. I have ground bevels with my bench grinder that were better than this.

the knife also came without the bk13

Sorry for the luck. I'm sure it was an oversite and will be taken care of. As for the BK13 not being included... that was a limited run time only. When they were gone they were gone.

Can you take a picture of the tip that isn't as blurry?

If you aren't happy it's your right to complain to them. I'm having a hard time with their customer service at the moment......well someone within their customer service.

I don't know what to say about the other things you wrote but they no longer come with the BK13, that was a limited time thing where they added the sample BK13's from china as a free add on to the BK9, now the 13 is made in the USA and its no longer comes with the BK9.

I am sure Ka-Bar/Becker will take care of your issues with haste as they always do with manufacturing issues. They are known for their after-purchase customer service and you no doubt will experience their generosity.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
I'm sure they will take care of you just give it a moment.

but they produced it

You ordered from a retailer. For all you know, it was a blade that was abused and then returned. Maybe someone tried to pry open a door with it?

Who knows? I'd take it up with the retailer first. Then I'd contact Kabar and explain it to them reasonably. They will take care of it.

I've owned probably 20 knives from Kabar and have not had any issues with any of them. I've probably handled 100 more and there have been no issues with them.

Don't let this be your final judgement of Becker or Kabar.

Toooj will be along here shortly, or tomorrow, he usually checks in. If your retailer won't take care of it, I know Kabar will. Contact your retailer first to see what their return policy is, and if they will exchange it for another one. If not, you will be sending it to Kabar.

That is unlike the level of quality that I have seen from Becker/Kabar, but no judgement past on anyone or anything. Glad you posted up here so we can see what you issues are.

Please don't let this sour your view of BKT/Kabar, they make some good stuff, but sometimes one slips by.

Guys, we like to treat our new guests will a little more courtesy here than what some in this thread have afforded D, I'm not telling anyone how to act, or behave, but please allow our guest to make his feelings known without a dogpile of posts blaming him for his issues. He didn't say a single negative comment about Kabar or BKT only his product, which does appear to be less than the level of manufacture I have seen.

Thank you for posting D154, we are glad you are here. Stick around, promise this will get worked out.

While Ethan/Toooj/KaBar will take care of you ASAP as a rule, please be aware that SHOT 2011 prep is going on right now, and they are more than likely as not to be crazed and very busy. Afterwards, sure. This week or so? Not so much with the within days kinda service.

You might want to inquire to your dealer, as that piece does look ... pre-used. The grind near the handle is unusual. KaBar does do hand finishing, so humans see everything, so I'm finding it hard to imagine that got out. Not impossible mind you, just hard.

Frankly, I was Vegas was my port of call, alas, it is not.

Please provide better pictures, in focus, for each issue. That will help.

and Welcome. Hope you stay a while...

D154 sorry to hear about your delima that's not cool at all, regardless of where it came from.. out of curiosity though, did you order from Amazon??

I never mentioned this before but I bought my bk2 from them and it came with the tip damaged, appeared someone dropped it while it was in the white paper cardboard as that had a little hole in the side..

also, my bk7 has a dip somewhat in the middle, its always bothered me but I've used it nonetheless.. not a deal breaker just very noticable.. both came from amazon..

I've heard others claim rejects get sent there, I don't know if there's any truth to that, just heard it from a few people.. (more then one)

I'm sure you'll be hooked up, no worries..

I ordered both my -2, and -9 from Amazon and was very happy with what I received. That being said, I'm sure they send out lemons from time to time. That sucks man.

According to his other post in General, he ordered it from "Red's Gear"

That's where I would send all my frustration.

That really sucks, and I hope this doesn't sour you on the Becker knives.

my 9 came from amazon (it said sold and shipped by amazon, not from a 3rd party seller on amazon) and it came perfect. lemons happen, it's how the company deals with it that matters.

Both my TacTool and my BK2 came from Amazon. The TacTool is out of line on the back edge and the sheath had a crack, but the BK2 is great.

I just ordered a BK9 and I hope it's in good shape when I receive it. I'm glad that I now know what to look for.
