I recieved a poor quality BK9

Ok. I was under the impression he bought it from Red's Gear. Why would he return it to Amazon?

If I buy something from Joe's Knife Store on EBAY, I wouldn't return it to EBAY.

??

My wife sells through Amazon. Depending on the vendor's agreement contract, Amazon will handle the returns for any vendor that sells via the Amazon website and charge the shipping fees back to the vendor.

D154,

If you have not returned it to Amazon, You can send it to me at:

KA-BAR Knives
200 Homer Street
Olean, NY
14760
Attn: Paul Tsujimoto

We'll replace it. (I'll personally go out into the warehouse and find THE perfect knife)
Sorry for the late response. We are very tied up with the SHOT Show. If you do send the knife to us, we will be gone the entire week (Jan 16-22) so it may take a little bit.
Hope this helps.

And there it is, the Tooj hand-select offer.
D154, I hope you can still go this route.

Really? Occasionally a bad knife gets out and that equals piss poor quality control?

Why don't you search the forum and see how many stories of "bad" Beckers and Kabars you can find.

I still don't know if it's actually Kabar's fault. The knife looks used to me and I think that it was a returned blade that was sold again.

Regardless, like everyone has stated, Tooj and Ethan are taking care of the problem, regardless of whether it's Kabar's fault or not.

I'd call that 100% FIRST CLASS, TOP SHELF, CUSTOMER SERVICE.

If I had any extra money right now, I'd buy another Kabar product just to make up for their loss of profit on the free replacement. :D

oguruma,

The manufacturer IS responsible for quality. Whether it is "piss poor" has yet to be determined and is only one person's opinion.
We do not believe that the "customer is always right". But we will do everything we can within reason to make a customer happy.

After reading the various issues, I thought I had better go back and take a 2nd look at my recentlty acquired BK 5. Am relieved to report that it is as flawless as a man made object can be. Its hard to find a better value in a working blade.

I still have a BK Kukri from the 90s. Not sure if that pattern is still made.

So the manufacturer is no longer responsible for piss-poor quality control?

please, i hope you are not trolling...

he ordered from a third party, so indeed KaBar did not send it to him directly

if the knife were handled, dropped, used, or screwed up and put back into inventory, KaBar can't really control that. many stores have a policy of reselling returned/used items. the better ones at least tell you the status. some stores (and i've had this happen to me), just shrink wrap the item again, and sell as new - obvious when there are missing parts ;)

as it happens though,KaBar is fully commited to happy customers, despite vendors...

No one said that, and your language, like the OP's original title, just seems intended to inflame. Could you maybe curb it back? If you don't, the mods will probably ask a little more firmly. :) (ETA: I see they already did, basically.)

I don't think there's evidence of poor quality control at Ka-Bar. Otherwise, we'd be seeing many such complaints about grinds. Still, it's a large scale production company, not a custom maker, so the occasional mis-grind can conceivably happen. Too early to make a call in this case. If Tooj gets his hands on the knife (not sure yet where the OP is sending it), I'm sure we'll get some resolution on the matter.

But, we will fix this......

As I suggested in the other thread (in general) a bad knife isn't all that big a problem because you guys stand behind your product 100%. I've recently ordered a BK-2 to go with my BK-7 & BK-9 - these knives are great and I trust KA-BAR/Becker!

Well my friends, thank you for all putting in your good word. I appreciate it alot! I didnt realize that amazon had free return slips that you can print out, so i just taped it on there and sent it back to amazon saying that it was a lemon. And no I dont blame ka bar, becker, or reds gear for this at all. I think that any of them would have just pulled the knife right off of there stock, and send it off. and if they checked, im sure that they would not unsheath the blade and inspect it for any flaws. lol! anyways thanks guys, I was caught off gaurd after the built up anticipation of awaiting its arival, and I popped haha.

TO EVERYONE READING THIS, PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED COMPANIES HAVE, OR WOULD HAVE SHOWN GOOD INTEGRITY IF I HAD CONTACTED THEM. I KNOW THIS FROM OTHERS, AND MY OWN PAST EXPERIENCES. I DO NOT PERSONALY CONSIDER THIS ANYONES FAULT (EVEN IF I DID A LITTLE BIT AGO LOL...)

I don't know if any of you saw this in the other thread that he also had going in general discussion, but this is what he said there. It would seem that he might have forgot about this thread.

I hope he still likes us. :)

wanted to look at my BK-09 to overlook its QC..... let me see here.....
1. What's with all this black stuff on the blade?
2. What's with this awesome handle config?
3. What's with the nice and comfortable thumb ramp?
4. What's with putting a Remora in the sheeth as a bonus all about?
5. What's with using a highly durable 1095 CroVan ?
6. What's with providing good sheeths when other brands don't even provide one?
7. What's with overbuilding the knives ON PURPOSE, so you can use them for years?
8. What's with selling these perfect knives on the market for a great value?
9. What's with Ethan and Toooj ensuring customer satisfaction on a daily basis about?
10. What's with all the Beckerheads and their pictures, stories, and close-knit community of knife lovers sharing a common love of the Becker knife?

Just my very humble opinion, but if you buy a knife like a Ka-Bar/Becker and you don't know the story and value, and just judge the knife on pure aesthetics (when and if there is a QC issue), you will have the same reaction as this OP, which is understandable.

My BK2 came from Amazon and it great. Truthfully, I don't hardly expect a knife to come sharp or with even grinds anymore.

But, if you really are sick of the 9er you can send it to me.

It would be cool to have returns or factory seconds given away to dedicated members as prizes here, as we often modify them anyway. Personally I could care less about a little grind slip, a scratch or blemish...whatever. Some of my knives look like factory seconds or thirds, because I use them.

All prizes here are factory fresh, and hand picked, I assure you. With Kabar, there is no such thing as factory seconds. Its called the Destructinator, and no blade unworth leaves Kabar in anything less that thousands of pieces. Think wood chipper for metal. Seriously.

The prizes you get from our contests, come from "The Man's Stockpile". Hand picked and factory fresh.

yeah, a rock tumbler of doom for metal, grind grind shred grind. mmm, scrap metal.

only on other forums do you win cast offs and seconds :) heh

Now, in addition to a thermal detonator, I want a Destructinator.
