I see alot of "I dont use my knife" for this or for that. So what do yall use it for

During the seasons of vegetation, I use mine in our large yard to cut out unwanted growths of saplings, other woody and herbaceous weeds, to trim the plants and trees we want to encourage, and cut up the yard waste. These are almost daily chores. Depending on the size of the job, I use a no-name machete "borrowed" from a friend who hasn't missed it for years, Buck Vantage, Victorinox OH Trekker, three Moras, one of them serrated, and an Opinel #9. Sometimes I use a blade on my Leatherman Charge TTi, but carry that one mostly for the tools or unplanned cutting. After autumn and before spring, I use them once in a while for cutting chores, like breaking down cardboard and like that. I also carry one of several SAKs for out and about, and a Leatherman Micra in my 5th pocket. They come in handy for small stuff almost every day.

It is all a big ruse dude! You are the only one posting here that actually uses their knife.

I use my knife for the needs of that day. Could be breaking down boxes as i do a lot of shipping and receiving. Could be rope, mail, whittling, bad attempts at carving. Whatever i need to cut it comes out and it does that. But I also dont go out of my way to use my knife as some crocodile dundee stage prop to show off in front of others when their is a better tool for the job at my disposal. I understand the people who go out and build shelters or want a folder they can baton through stacks of firewood. But i dont understand or agree with the mentality that your knife is a toy or a paper weight if you dont do those things. I think many old timers are laughing at many of us from the grave pointing a finger and asking "do you know what a hatchet is? " or "you know they invented steak knives before i was born let alone died?" Sometimes i see the whole "i use my knife like a man and you dont" thing as sorta part of the knife hipster thing where people go out of their way to use a knife for something so that they can go home and make an elitist post on bladeforums with plenty of pics to prove they are the only ones really using their knife.

I used mine once, to open the box my camera came in I use to take pictures of my knives.

I mean I know not all of you are office workers. The majority of you do get dirt grime and scratches on your knives dont you? Or is this place like 1911.com and Ar15.com where safe queen's rule?
If im out of bounds my bad.

I carry knives as secondary defense weapons, so I'm glad I haven't had to use them yet. I lost my Leatherman and ended up using my CQC-8 for everday tasks and regretted it (it is now off getting reground and sharpened) so now I make sure that I carry a SAK to do the chores while the real knife is always sharp and ready.

I think I'm going to get a leatherman surge though.

All of my knives are safe queens...

I use them for whatever it makes sense to use them for. I own no "safe queens," including the sentimental knives from my late grandfather. Some have better/worse care shown to them depending on what they are but at the end of the day they are all tools. Tools get used for the jobs they were made to be used for.

Cutting and slicing ANYTHING. Like what knives are supposed to do.

When people here say they dont use their knife as a hammer, prybar, axe, or screwdriver or a chair to sit on... can you really hold it against them?

I dont hold anything against anyone. I asked a question. There was no deeper meaning to it. Cant hear a persons tone through a message board but the question was not asked in a ridiculing tone.

Sorry if I came off too defensive. Subject gets touchy sometimes and I meant it as a general statement not squarely aimed at you OP.

Just to add, speaking for myself: I own so many knives that many end up being seldom used or not used at all. I do collect but won't hesitate to use any of them. Just a matter of not having enough pockets and not having enough things to cut :)
