I Smell a Rat!

Had an eBay seller send me a Marbles Woodcraft in one of those padded envelopes. Since there was no sheath, he covered the edge with a single layer of marking tape (I mean, you wouldn't want to waste.). That left the point, which was sticking 1/2" out of the envelope when it arrived. Not too swift.

Got ya beat, I once had a seller send me a Western W-49 Bowie where the same thing happened. The Mailman gave me dirty looks for a half a year afterwards.

Padded envelopes are the tools of Satan:), and have no place in shipping collectibles. Generally I find that Ebay sellers that use the padded envelope are being lazy and cheap or trying to hustle a few bucks off an inflated shipping figure.

The Post Office can refuse to mail a knife, because they can be a danger to their employees. If you package a knife in a padded envelope, they can easily tell what it is you are mailing.

That's an odd place for a hole to occurr through sorting. None of the rest of the envelope looks worn. Looks like someone dug in there with their finger nail and fished the knife out.

Boxes, and tape, lots of tape and insurance should be standard when shipping knives or anything of value.

I have also used the padded envelopes for cheaper small knives (usually only when the buyer wants to go with first class). But I always reinforce and pack between cardboard and bubble wrap. I give cheaper shipping options on some knives because who wants to spend 5 bucks on shipping for a parts knife that may only be worth 5 bucks to begin with?
