"after he tried to grab a gun and attack a judge"

This is the part I don't understand. From where was he trying to grab a gun? Do they have them just hanging in the corner on the coat racks there? If the officer was far enough away that he had to walk up on the guy to shoot him the second time, he wasn't trying to grab the officer's gun-he was too far away.

Also, if a guy has both hands busy "swinging his crutches", that pretty much means he can't go for a gun.

I'm not saying the guy didn't deserve to be shot, I'm just saying that the officer needs to come up with a better story than this or at least have a throw-down piece to plant on the guy. What in the world are they teaching in the academy down there anyway if an officer can't figure out how to make a shooting look good?!?!

The original story aired on NPR said the judge had his own pistol out and that was the gun the cop said the guy was going for. So Judges and cops were all armed and dangereous.....well sort of.

Sounds to me like there was a past history between the officer and the defendant....you never know. The first shot is understandable..if the trained officer felt he needed to shoot the defendant, obviously he is going to act on that..the second shot is a pure lack of self control and professionalism.

Hell I think that concealed weapons carry permits ought to be good inside the courtroom. The guy might have had a chance to draw down and shoot it out. You can't buy tickets to a show that good. Well maybe you can.... Hell I am going to set up a ticket booth outside the court room in Birmingham now.:)

Mike I think the only thing that beats this story is once from the next county over where the Sheriff’s Report said:

“Deputies responded to a noise complaint. Domestic argument over biscuits and gravy.” And no, I’m not joking. :D

...would probably have been better for the LEO if the guy was killed. Definitely better for the guy to still be alive. End result is going to cost tax payers a lot of money regardless.

Somewhat off topic, but, am I the only one who finds it interesting that; in our society we still barely recognize that sometimes someone is such a threat to others that deadly force is necessary, and yet the moment they hit the ground we rush them to the ER to save their people killing butt?

God bless,
Adam

ROFL,

Adaman, biscuits and gravy is serious business. You don't play around with that. Hopefully the instigator wash shot at least twice.

God bless,
Adam

Interesting is one way to put it I suppose.

Home defense, self-defense shooting as a CCW holder or LEO, whatever it may be. We shoot to immediately stop a threat from doing us serious bodily harm or killing us. It is not my (or our) intent to take that persons life, but if they expire as a consequence of their actions, it’s out of our control. Once there is no longer a threat, EMS treats it pretty much just like anyone else with a gunshot wound or wounds. Their job is to save lives so they do their job. Whether or not we feel like the person deserves that care based on the actions he had just taken, is always a topic of debate. :D

Sounds like our local police. They shot a waitress in the head while she was sitting in her car unarmed. This was after a chase. They shot an unarmed man in the back who violated the sign ordinance and ran from them after being tazed on his front porch. He had allegedly threatened code enforcement officers. Both are dead. No charges were ever made agianst the shooters. I don't think any have been shot in court yet.

This judge and cop need their own court room drama daytime show. Sort of like Judge Judy but with an Alabama tone:)

Funny you say that...in texas you can chl in the capitol building but not in a courthouse

Haha, Judge Judy needs more guys getting straightened out with ASP batons and more OC spray. It would make it even more interesting! :D

This is from a different news report:
Attorney Bill Denson said Ford went for the judge's gun before being shot.

How would the suspect know the judge had a gun, unless the judge was wearing it outside his robes?

oruacat2, because the report I read said the judge had pulled out his gun when the man became unruly.

Vin

Gotcha. Still a weird story.

Good points, and while I think a little harder about the previous statement, by the time a threat is stopped, its best left to the judges and juries. I don't always agree with what goes on in our courtrooms, and I hate much of the crime that happens; but summary execution is not the way for things to be done. I think that my former statement may have pointed to the conclusion that they should. :foot:

What the Hell is going on in Alabama? First they b raping everybody. Then there were the leprechauns. Now we have the court room shoot outs.

Airports, Courtrooms and Public Schools. If you are looking for logic, reason and sanity, avoid them all like the plague they are.

It will be most interesting to see if they release the footage. You know, the whole Seattle thing, they didn't release that for a while and I don't know, but it is the Vegas shooting where the CHL/CCW holder was shot by police, was that footage ever "found?"

If this was a bad shoot, there is going to be a camera malfunction or something is going to keep that film from the public.

"It was senseless to shoot him twice."

No joke. From that range, you wold think a trained marksmen could have finished it with one. Haven't these guys seen the price of ammo?

My thoughts exactly. That office needs to be reprimanded for having to shoot a second time. :D
