I Spotted a Few Fiddlebacks I really like Today.

Does anyone know why Andy doesn't make the Padre anymore ?

The Padre is a difficult one to pull off. If it is easier to do CNC, then maybe we will see them as a mid tech at some point. I really like the Padre, but I also really like the Gaucho, so I would be good with either.

I know I would definitely put one to good use, and would be tripping over my shark fins to snag one, much like Phil and others have expressed.

The Fiddleback World needs more Padres.......please Andy.....surprise us !

Here's what Andy said back in Nov 2014:

Doing stainless padres is not easy because the convex grind is a light pressure grind. The blade is so thin and the grind so high that its just not easy to do. I finish about 1 in 4 Padres. Therefore the demand isn't the problem its the rediculous losses and frustration that is the impediment. If I was to get a disc grinder and start flat grinding them they'd be pretty cake. But we don't have that functionality and don't have room or electricity for it.

The last Padre that was made was in Dec 2013 from what I can find. It lasted days before someone grabbed in from the Fiddleback Friday thread.

Who knows, maybe with the expansion into the new shop, some more room for some new equipment might make it more possible in the future?

Thanks for the historical perspective Mist & Thurin.......Lets hope the new shop will allow for a disc grinder at some point.

Would be nice if so. We may see a whole set of Fiddleback Forge kitchen cutlery come about if so :)

Well ... Dylan (Fletcher Knives) made some incredible chef knives not too long ago (i got one for the Mrs). Yall folks wanting Padres didn't see FK chef knife?

Yeah, I saw one very special Okonomi come up for sale in his forum, for just under $500. Lol, as gorgeous as it was...and as much as I love Dylan's work...I was really kind of hoping to come in a little under that for a kitchen knife. I think maybe I need one a little less special :D

How do you like the coffin handle?
I thought it was a cool touch, being on a kitchen knife.

It's not bad. I think I would actually like it to be more pronounced, meaning it is still a little boxy. I would prefer an even steeper angle to the bevels so that the flats on the top and bottom of the tang are not as pronounced, and the general profile would be more of an octagon. Still an outstanding knife and a keeper for sure!
