i suck at knife names

man i go to the range and wap lots of responces. I think i have at least a clue as to where i may go with it.

WHOA.

Minus the Cap lifter, I drew out and did thr rough cuts on a small pile (5) VERY EERILY SIMILAR knives this weekend.

The design basis is a patch blade utility knife from the 19th century, added to some modern lightweight hiking design- mine are a bit thinner in the blade and have an upward angle to the blade edge. And the guardis different.- *whew*, okay, maybe not that similar.

Anyway, I intentionally used the patch utilities as a base design set, and I'm just pondering calling mine "sierra hiker" or "sierra patch knives" or something.

Sooooo, "appalachian tanto" hahahah, or "Smokey Mountain patch" or "Butch's Bottle Opener"?

What kind of a blade style is that? I know it's not a true tanto and I don't think it's a true Wharncliffe either. What is this blade style primarily designed to do? It's longer than a box opener but mentally I can't envision what to use this specific blade profile for. (Yes, I've probably had a sheltered upbringing.)

NOW! (as in, "The magic word is now.")

Mirage

(I liked the Crucible too!)

Actually, with a 4" blade that means the top of the handle is around 6" and the bottom of the handle is still probably 5" or so. Might be tempted to call at least one of them "Mine". :D

here are 2 better pictures of the blade grind and in hand shots

As soon as I saw them the name "Mako" came to mind. Mako as in the shark.

Great looking knives!

i plate quenched in foil took out of packet to quick temper at 300 so that i could finish tempering in the morning
took the 4 blades and put them in a large foil pack with some paper and thats how they came out
i dont normaly use a 2nd foil pack even when tempering at 1000 but i had it from the aneal of some steel and said hell why not it will cut down even more on clean up

im not even sure i can make this happen again but next time i run a high alloy steel that takes a 1000 temper i will sure give it a shot

Butch, whatever you call them will work, they look great  The handle work is AWESOME ! :) The blades are even better ;)
