Seriously, I'm not good at it.

I see something that looks nice then I have to go do some research on it. I don't know a whole lot about all the different brands, pricing, knife details, etc. Once I figure out the details and decide I want it, it's gone.

The other thing that happens is, I watch knives on eBay. Then I keep watching the exchange for that same knife. I finally give up on the exchange and buy the knife off of eBay.

Within 24hrs, that knife will be on the exchange for well below what I just paid.

I suck at this. It appears you have to be much faster than I to buy off the exchange here.

Don't worry, you'll get more familiar with the average price of knives that interest you. I did. Now if I could just have enough money at the same time to snap them up when I see them. Lol. it's always something.

I did both things again tonight.

Noticed a Factor Equip Compact CF this evening. Thought it looked real nice. Did some quick research on it, people seemed to like them so I thought screw it, I'll buy it, and it's gone.....

Got tired of looking for a used ZT0460. One popped up on eBay yesterday so I just used the buy it now. Sure enough one shows up on the exchange for well under what I just paid yesterday. I was looking for one for weeks!

I would be careful buying knives off the auction sites.

I appreciate the heads up. I do usually search for the clones of the knives I'm going to buy so I can notice the differences and make sure the one in the pics I'm buying is real.

I didn't get to do that with the 0460 I just bought but the guy has good feedback.

I'm with you. I'm too indecisive with my purchases to do the exchange here.

Sometimes takes me days to decide if I really want to buy a knife. So even when a knife I want pops up on here, I have to think about it, and when my minds made up, its gone.

Guess I should just made a mental list of the knives I know I want, and the maximum price I'll pay for them.

If you're like me, even if you know you want it, you'll be too late to get it.

Know what you want when you want it...Get it. Simple.

I'm just too slow. Knew I wanted a Factor CF after I missed the first one this evening. Then I missed another. That's a first for me. Missed two if the same knives the same evening. I'm not getting better at this. LOL

Be the stalker.

The time to buy something you want is the moment you see it. Try making a list of knives you want and pouncing on them as soon as you see them for sale. If the sellers price is fair, you can always re-sell them for little to no loss.

I try to only buy from the exchange, and I have a mental list and prices already figured out. If a knife is below that and fits my conditions, I jump. If not, I go back to waiting.

E-bay is NOT a place where I wanna be...not unusual to see an item priced at twice the current market price on the Exchange.
We all lose knives...doing the same things you're doing. As you gain a bit more experience, you will KNOW what you are after, and will recognize it when it comes up on the Exchange. Then, you must strike quickly...or it's gone.
I have struck TOO QUICKLY on occasion, and bought a knife I didn't really want. The model numbers will mess you up on the blade-steels, like the Benchmade 940's and 710's...and I always have to look them up quickly on BladeHQ...my go-to for proper and complete info such as blade thickness and blade-steel.
It's a fun thing, as you know. You might wish to click on "NEW POSTS" fairly often, in order to see the newest listings...
You're in good hands here...it's a good place to hang out.

Screw it. I'm attempting to cheat by posting a wanted to buy thread. That's appears to be my only hope.
That's not cheating, that's what it is there for.
I have done that then placed a link to that thread in my signature so more folks see it, as I post. The more I post, the more "advertising" I do.

I've found many on the exchange at prices i was willing to pay, its been a while because i've been focused on specific models and colors for a bit since i've found one at the price i was willing to pay. There are usually lots of good deals, just figure out what you want and watch for it. Then don't hesitate
