I suppose it's time to ask

Hey guys, I've got a question or more to the point I need some recommendations. I've recently started aquiring some Busses in the hopes of finding a good camp type knife made from INFI but I don't know all of the terminology, models, and initials yet so I'm kinda hit and miss so far. Here's what I have so far and then we can go from there:

NO-E, not bad but I'd like a longer blade
BATAC, again I'd like more blade, too thick
FFBM, Too thick, too big
FFFBM LE, Too nice, too expensive to use, too big, too thick
SR RatManDu, it's not technically a Busse but I love it. If it was bigger it would be my end all be all I'm thinking.

So, I guess I'm looking for something in between a FBM, which I like but it's too big and thick for my purposes, and a NO-E. Is there a bigger Busse version of a RatManDu? Visually I like the straight handled models more than the E models if it matters. And my FFBM has Mag handles and with the included thickness of the steel that's as big around as I'd want and a little slimmer wouldn't break my heart either. I'd like it to run between $400-$500 so I won't mind using it much and a full flat grind would be nice too. In the end I'll probably trade/sell the LE cuz I'm more looking to beat the crap out of a big fixed blade than look at it and keep it nice.

ps. It would also be helpful if I could find something with a decent canvas type sheath or at the very least fit in an aftermarket one.

From pics I'm now kinda leaning towards a Straight Handled Steel Heart or a Satin Jack Tac but again, that's going by the pictures. And I don't know if I can get either in my budget as I'm not up on the Busse aftermarket pricing yet.:o

Again, I appologise if I'm using the wrong initials and terminology.:o

thanks for your help,

Greg

You might be looking for what I'm after, an origional Satin Jack.

It's slim and trim and light weight, kind of like a Ratmandu on steroids.

If you really like the straight handle, the Aniversary Steel Heart 1 is coming soon but it's thicker and heavier than the Satin Jack.

Another option is the Hell Razor.

If you want a lot of blade and little weight, the Muddy Mojo is pretty awesome but not cheap.

You'd probably like the Hell Razor, 3/16 and 7 inch blade. It's a really nice all arounder. It'll have a wider blade than a Ratmandu, but still thin.

There's also the Zero Tolerance Steel Hearts, 3/16's, but they are ergo handles...

I think you need to find a Hell Razor; the ones here with the green Blade. Or a Mole/Satin Jack the black blade. I think the HR were a 7 inch blade and the Jack a 6 inch. you have to go to the exchange to get one but they are around and not one of the high demand blades.

What effect do the machined lines in the blades have? I liked the Hell Razors but don't like the machined lines.:(

A Mud Razor would be the way to go!

I had one once.... ah, no regrets...

Not much in my experience, but they grow on you.

Give it a chance.

You can try to find a Mud Razor which doesn't have the CBT, but you will have to look harder and spend more.

The ASH-1 is similar in size but probably a bit heavier because it's made from thicker stock. It's the closest thing you will find to a Mud Razor without the secondary market price.

I'm really liking that Mole/Satin Jack, is there anything with that profile but with a 7 - 9 inch blade? And if I'm looking for one in the exchange is there a difference between a Mole and a Satin Jack or are they the same thing? Are there any other initials I need to look for with it to designate the grind or handle?

TIA,

Greg

Or you can also try a BIBB which is 3/16" thick and has a 7" blade. That is if I don't try to buy it before you do ;) There are not too many options in the 3/16" stock in the longer blades.

Ash-1 second from bottom and SOW at bottom

ASH-1 Blade is just over 6 1/4
SOW 6 3/4

But a SOW is about $700....

Can the SH Steel Hearts be had in my price range? By looking I'd say it's between them and the Mole/Satin Jack.

See, it's been so long since it came out that everyone has forgotten about our friend the SFNO!!!

not on the secondary market. you can try and score one in a ganza, mine was 597 in the knoboganza. not way out of your price range.

on the exchange, if one shows up, expect to pay 800-1000.

or wait for the anniversary sh to be available from the main site.
