I suppose it's time to ask

no the anniversary will be more of a straight handle. only one shape, but im hoping many scale and finish options.

Do you watch the Busse Company Store at a certain time to score one or will they be available for a while?

I have a couple Hell Razors and Satin Jack Tac's. I much prefer the grip on the HR's (SF, I believe is what the grip shape is, I think). The Hell Razors are underrated (based on sale prices I have seen), get one in your hand and you will forget that you don't like the CBT (does anyone?).

the initial offering will be at bussecombat.com, not the bcs. you will be able to choose your configuration. then the wait begins.

once the orders have shipped and the anni is off the site, the bcs will probably get some to sell, perhaps in configs unavailable in the original offering. it probably wont be until 2008 that the bcs will have theirs.

The ASH-1 will be available to order on the main Busse Combat page, but you will have to wait for it. In the picture above, it's second from the bottom.

In the same picture, the Muddy Mojo is fifth from the bottom. It's 3/16" and the handle is very comfortable (EU style), very much blade for the weight, but $600+.

Some people (including me) prefer the SF and EU handles to the Tac handle. I had a Satin Jack Tac and traded it. I have a Mud Razor and it isn't going anywhere.

The origional Satin Jack did not have a Tac handle and was a smaller knife, so it might not be what you are looking for.

If you are looking for a larger knife, the Swamp Rat Ratweiler might be a good choice and you should be able to find a nice one for under $300.

Another thing you may want to look for is a Ratweiler. I know I'm blaspheming here, but it's right between the FFBM and the Ratmandu and you can find it cheaper (when you can find one) than a comprable Busse.

Another vote for the Hell Razor/Mud Razor here, a great all rounder and it's INFI  If you think the CBT (machined lines) are too ugly there's always the Mud Razor.

Here's mine:

This thread needs more ST-Ripper!!!

That is, until the ASH-1 is available.

Razors are GREAT Busse's...

To me they are the best looking knives

That one looks familiar :D!

I'd say the ASH-1 is the brass ring. If you're able to get a hold of one, you'll also be EXTREMELY impressed with the Eu-17 (regular). You might also be able to get your hands on a SH-e for a decent price which is also a great blade. The Ratweiler looks a lot like the Eu-17 so that would probably be an awesome buy and from what I hear you really won't tell the difference between a Swamp Rat and a Busse other than the Busse is easier to sharpen. With normal use that is...with extreme use the Busse would pull ahead. I don't think you'd ever have a problem with a Ratweiler though. Those type of handles are extremely secure and fill the hand nicely. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose.

I might stay away from the Mud and Hell Razors though because of the spine (wouldn't be good for batoning) and the weight is that of a fighter. There's better knives than that for general use. Though that's really a personal preference thing. The Satin Jack Tac might be a good choice for you and you could probably get some mag scales thrown on it to boot at the shop now :D

Oil Man:
The knife you describe (except for the price) may be this one. If you have the money and want an 1911 as well, this may work. Its the Les Baer 1911 / Busse Combat Package.

Its a great looking knife. I just hope they will be out for general sale at sometime in the future.

Seems like I saw that one in Blade a while back and it may be what started my Busse kick. I was extremely let down back then that it looked like you had to buy both to get the one.:(

Greg,

If you like the E handle, consider a Steelheart E. I have a Ratmandu and love it also. I've had both of the older SJ's (1/4" & 3/16"), a SJTAC, Mole Jack, NOE, & ZTNO in search of the perfect 6".

The ZTNO was my favorite in the 6" range, but they are getting rare and way expensive. The older SJ's aren't as wide as the Ratmandu. I liked them, but wanted something more capable of chopping. The Satin Jack Tac and Mole Jack were great, but felt more like a fighter than a chopper/utility knife. The NOE felt way too thick and stubby to me. If your willing to go to a 7" blade and like the E handles, I'd hunt a Steelheart E. I haven't tried a Hell Razor or the LE SJTAC. I've always wanted to try the 1/4" SJTAC or the SFNO (right!).

Good luck, I'm still searching for "The" Ohio chopper. Hide your credit cards...

P.S. If you want to talk Dog's or Rat's email or PM me.

You should look into the Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. It's not a Busse, but it's still SR-101 steel and Busse family quality. One downside for you is that it's 1/4" thick. But it's a lot cheaper than most of the aforementioned blades. There's always a tradeoff. They come up on the exchange with some regularity. See what you can find. Good luck.

Oilman:
I know what you mean. The Les Baer Combat knife appears to be the perfect mid sized single edged busse knife. Its one awsome looking blade. Heck if busse offered it for individual sale I would get 10 of them.

Unfortunately, most of the knives offered by busse these days are either too small or too large. I have handled several of the knives and they are all outstanding knives, though geared more toward chopping or skining.

The only thing in the middle is a Satin Jack Tac, which I have found is almost impossible to find. Maybe other members can give you better information on how to find one. I haven't had any luck so far.

The HellRazor/Mud Razor is a good knife and can be found on aftermarket forums for not to terribly high a price ($350 range I think). It does have a 7" blade. It is a little big but works just fine.

Maybe you could keep your fingers crossed and hope in a year or two or three Busse will release the Les Baer combat knife for individual sale. If they did that it would save you having to pay a high aftermarket price, though the wait would be horrible.

Best of luck in your quest for the perfect knife.

SFNO or SJTAC LE (prefer it's thickness). I don't own a Hell Razor but I REALLY liked the one I got to check out. Surprisingly light.
