I just got the 31 small s45 back from Boise yesterday and it was hair shaving sharp. Very slicey. I bring it to work today and but a couple of cardboard flaps off of a box and this thing won’t even push cut through paper anymore. Idk what it is but It just doesn’t stay razor sharp as long as some other blades I have. I’m pretty sure I’m selling it soon. Shame too because I just had it sharpened, new gold hardware and lanyard installed and got a spare set of washers. 67B2AD9C-1FED-4EB4-BEAD-1309D62A2F78.jpeg

I have had issues with sharpness on my CRKs and I’ll just add this: I think the value in a CRK is in its solid construction, after sale service, and ease of disassembly/reassembly.

Spydercos cut better, sure… but sometimes you take them apart and they’re never the same again.

Feel free to let me know if you decide to part with it. I’m a sucker for gold hardware.

Maybe it’s just me idk. I’m fairly certain I’m going to. The money will help me finish
Y long range rifle anyways

Edge retention, sharpening angle, heat treat, blade grind all contribute to the issue.

I’ve always wondered about this honestly. The PJ Inkosingo I have with me now, I’ve carried and used for idk, a month steady now? Use it everyday at work and haven’t touched the edge at all.

Granted it is not razor sharp by any means but for my uses a good working edge is perfect. I made up a panel today , wired remodel cans, and opened boxes , so basically stripped romex and opened blister packs of breakers all day. Not a problem at all. I very rarely cut down cardboard tho. Haven’t cut any paper in a long time either but I’d say it’d struggle some. It won’t shave my arm hair by no means but just for my uses the edge is great.

Well this thing isn’t even cutting paper with ease. And when I say I barely used it, I BARELY USED IT. I just went to the mcbee I had with me instead. Disappointing. It’s an aesthetically please knife and visually. Guess just not for me.

Maybe you won the unlucky lottery of all time and got a bad one somehow. There’s just no way they have the HUGE following they have for decades and win so many awards for quality to have this happen on even a slightly regular basis in my opinion. I’m not doubting you’re experience at all, just doesn’t seem like they could build the impeccable reputation if this happened on any sort of a regular basis. I’m stumped honestly. Absolutely love my small Sebenza and it shaves hair easily without hardly any pressure, all I do is hit it with a strop 1-2 times per month depending on use.

No I’m not bashing the company by any means. It could be me for all I know. But after they sharpened it it shouldn’t lose sliceyness that quick. I still like the company and the knife but for the price I paid I don’t want to strop ot everyday for minor tasks

I’ll try and cut some paper here in a few. I’m sure it’ll struggle. It still sharpens a pencil good tho. I don’t think CRKs hold a razor sharp edge as good as some other brands tho

I don't know the history of the blade, but let's imagine I sharpened it on an 8000 grit stone, and made a beautiful slicey edge that would go through anything.

It would behave just like that.

Toothy edges are what you want. My perfect pocketknife stone these days is a recently acquired Sigma Power Select 1000, a fast, nasty, gritty stone that quickly makes the edge that would hold up under those conditions for a long, long time.

I admit I like that there is a "maybe Sebenza sucks" post. There should always be dissent. The timing could have been better, though. My first Sebenza ever arrived today.

Well idk what CRK sharpens too but it was a fresh factory edge. I just got it back from them yesterday
Factory edges suck for a lot of reasons. Another possibility is that the factory left a burr on the edge. It starts out sharp, but rolls over quickly. I had to sharpen my 21 a couple of times before I started to see the performance I expected, but I find that to be true of many new knives.

Well I’m honestly not looking forward to messing with it. I’ll probably just move it along
