I think i am going to do it/ pre-new years resolution

I think this is a great task and I wish you all the best. I came very close this year to being forced into a one knife existence due to a loss of money and work. I was lucky and was just able to squeeze by. I would be interested in trying such a challenge and will think about it a couple days. It is a great test to minimalism and this is something I want to work on in my life.

Well just completed my christmas shopping. Could you believe i went to like 4 stores and nobody in town seems to have a stainless steel soddie, not walmart, not lowes (although they have it in CV) not target nor bass pro shops (also have cv but not stainless).
but i finally found some puma sodbusters in 440 in bass pro shop for a reasonable price. I'll post pics later. I did the best i could, liners look good, no gaps that i could see, even held them up to the light and very little to no light shines through. that said, they came in clamshell pacs, so i cant check their walk and talk *grumblegrumble*

but i think it will work for my purposes, to try and show my neice and nephew the charm of traditional knives and get a good grounding before they get all into moderns. i want them to be able to make an informed decision when they are old enough.

You can order Sodbusters off the Internet all day long. No need to settle for something you don't want just because local retailers don't carry them.

Oh, gotcha. These are the ones for the kids. Sorry you couldn't find them locally.

It's just the opposite around here RSmith. I can get stainless Case sod dies all day long, but not CV ones.

Ok, took till page 2 but here are the "current" pics of what the soddie looks like today. At the very least i think we all want to see any and all changes that develop over the next 5 1/2 months of everyday carry. So the goal is to have today pics and maybe update pics every couple weeks/month along the way.

Day 1 of the experiment

Looks great! It will be interesting to see if it changes much

I don't know if this would help anyone on a one knife mission , but what I ended up doing was just own one knife at a time. So if I come across a knife I really like or even a few I will buy them and then keep the one I like best and sell the others. This allows me to try new knives but never own more than one for more than a week. This also helps keep my wallet happy, also I try out new knives vicariously though all of you great folks and your posts :-)

At this moment I have a radio knife that I really like but come tomorrow I have a schrade/GEC auto coming in so one will have to go......or maybe this once I will brake my rule....lol

Looks like a viking funeral for your knife and light!

Still looking for a dance partner on the challenge? I'll join. Two caveats...

1) I carry 2 knives/tools, not 1.

2) I may invoke the common Lenten practice of suspending the "fast" on Sundays to carry a special Sunday go-to-meeting knife.

How about we use this thread to keep track of if we're still sticking to it?

1) i suspect that your micra's blade is very rarely used, if ever. so why not!
2) hey to each his/her own.

so the more the merrier.
and yes, we can use this thread to see who's sticking to it, and for moral support if falling of the wagon and need some pep talk

I think I can give this a shot I will be only carrying the modified Tl-29 that glennbad put together for me. Since it hadn't left my pocket shouldn't be too hard it is a single spear point blade buy just has that special 'feel' and the worm groove scales give a solid feel to this knife my kids are already calling it dad's special knife. Will be interesting with some Boy Scout camping adventured coming up and some squirrel hunting still going on where I usually chose my sharpfinger.

welcome aboard!

Actually, I use the small blade on the Micra for whittling projects where a short blade is best. Sort of like carrying a Classic on a key ring or carrying a jack with a small secondary blade, only I carry the secondary blade in my LFP (where it gets used more). Still, you are right in that I rarely use the Micra's blade, which is why I think of it more as a multi-tool companion and not a knife competitor to the Opinel.

Good luck!
I carried one knife for many years, an Imperial Barlow from childhood through high school, then a Zippo CutAbout from my early 30's until about 12 years ago. That's when I got involved with Scouting and was introduced to all the different knives available. I still only carried a SAK SwissChamp until a few years ago when I discovered this place.

That's when my 'collector' compulsion kicked in :D Now I change knives daily and love the ability to do so. I've bought enough knives to satisfy almost every itch, though I keep looking for "the one". As I haven't found "the one" watch in collecting since 2005, I doubt I'll do the same with knives but it's fun to try, and knives are a heck of a lot cheaper than watches!

Nope, I'm crazy enough, but not dedicated enough... I'm winding down on the three knife experiment; in the next few days I will have the opportunity to carry some of my other knives again. So, no, I won't try this thing with you. Not a this time anyway. Good luck on your venture.....

Yup, same "3 knife experiment" wind-down here. My Ebony #66 is a fine knife and I love it, but I'm itching for something with some old bone scales on it. The other two I've not had much problem with.

I'll jump in on this one. I've not been able to limit myself before this, but maybe third time's the charm. I do agree with Pinnah though, the micra is derned near indispensable. I love my screwdrivers and tweezers too much to give that up. Also, I think the Sabbath deserves a special knife. and I'll probably want a fixed blade for hiking, camping and cleaning game. And then there's a boot knife for when i wear my Corcorans. And one in the glove box. Nevermind....

LeatherMan64, the way I see it, the fact that I have traditional knives laying around for specialized work on my workbench, desk drawer, tool box, backpacking kit, hunting bag and on and on has NOTHING to do with what's in my RFP. For me, this is about the RFP carry of the day.
