I think I lost my Spyderco Chap 😔😭

Honestly, ordering a new knife is the best way to find a lost knife! You know it'll turn up as soon as the new one's in hand!

That works on flashlights too. My OLight turned up a couple weeks after it’s replacement arrived.

I lost my 16oz framing hammer once. I figured this trick would work so I replaced the hammer with a 22oz.

The 16oz did turn up (in the box with my belt sander🧐) but now I’m not stuck with two of the same size/weight 😉.

Its so awful to lose a knife, I've only lost one, a Native 5 Salt, but man its the worst feeling when you realize it.

I found one worse on Sunday.

We were at a renaissance festival in a sea of people an hour and a half from home and thought I lost the $300 car key/fob to my wife’s new car and stranded us in Wisconsin. My stomach was turning.

Turns out the shirt I was wearing was designed by a sadistic a****** and the key was just lost in my shirt. It ended well but the few minutes of terror, wondering how we were going to get home or if someone found the key then went searching for the car, was pretty terrible.

I just got home after covering the entire yard this morning, from fence line to fence line…with a metal detector. North south east and west….I’m flabbergasted.
I lost a Farmer X scooping snow a couple winters ago, but that’s somewhat understandable considering there was several inches of snow on the ground.

Ahh well, I appreciate you all letting me vent on here, but I guess it’s time to suck it up, I know I’m not the only one who’s lost a knife. If it mysteriously turns up, I’ll be sure to update the thread.

Hmmmm....you sure it didn't slip out of your pocket and jam down by the seat belt buckle, or slip under the driver's seat in your car?

Positive. I had it with me when I was cutting lumber (I clearly remember sharpening a pencil with it), so I know it made it out of the vehicle, but couldn’t find it after the job was done. I had cords wound up but hadn’t even loaded my tool box before noticing it was gone. It never even made it out of the backyard.

Hmm....that is puzzling then, especially since you clearly recall it making it out of the vehicle. Any chance it's somewhere in the wood pile?

I've never lost a knife, but I usually find other things as soon as I stop looking haha.. Give it a few days.

Congrats on the new purchase.

Any chance it got caught with trash/debris and accidentally discarded?

Few years back I lost a ZT 450 Sinkevich, looked everywhere, thought of replacing it many times.
Then 9 or 10 months later, while hand watering the plants in the front yard a saw a glint of metal in the bush near the outdoor faucet, could not believe my eyes. There was my knife in a place I had been hundreds of times since it was lost. I took it apart, the bearings were toast but the blade cleaned up fine and the scales being titanium were perfect. Today the knife is in the collection good as new. Now when it comes to flashlights whenever I lose one and but the replacement, the old one always shows up within a week no matter how long it has been missing.

Not there either, lumber is too expensive to throw away lol, I sorted thru it (even the old stuff I’d replaced) and stacked it neatly in the shed.

I appreciate everyone helping with various “what if’s”, but I have exhausted all the options. Like I said, I even looked in the unusual places…looked in the potted plants, made sure it hadn’t got kicked off the deck into the egress window…everywhere. I’m starting to believe there’s knife fairies who grab your stuff and hide it in the treetops. lol

The two knives I've lost I never left the house with.

The first was a Mini Griptilian with the oval opening hole sporting some cool, dimpled smooth contoured aluminum scales. I'd purchased aftermarket all blue hardware and it was the sweetest little Grip I've ever had. I've never been able to find those scales since; I think I got them on Etsy. We had some friends over and at some point I took the knife out of my pocket and used it for something...and have never found it since.

The second knife was a Giant Mouse Ace Clyde. The knife was brand new and I was carrying it for the first time, but only in the house. I was watching some sporting event that night and overserved myself a little too much and fell asleep on the sofa. When I woke up, the knife was nowhere to be found. When we finally trash that sofa, I'm going to dice it open to see if that knife isn't wedged into the frame somewhere!

Anyway, loosing knives is almost always a frustrating mystery.

Dang, I wish I had that sweet Grip back...

I once lost a GEC Eureka Jack for a few months before finding it in the sandwich baggie box. Apparently set it on the box absentmindedly and it fell inside.

I also permanently lost a Queen #06L. Huge bummer. I also looked everywhere and eventually decided I must have also absentmindedly set it somewhere and then threw away whatever it was in. Otherwise left it in my car and it got stolen. Either way I purchased a GEC Possum Skinner to replace it and will just make sure not to lose that one lol

Can't look forever, eventually have to cut the loss. Might show up down the road eventually as a nice surprise

Edit: Now that I think about it, I purchased the Queen with funds from selling a GEC that I purchased with winnings from a casino. Maybe it was karma telling me not to gamble.

Gonna do my best to keep this short and sweet, which I’m not very good at, but my brother in law who has been living in the house and is in the process of getting the last of his crap in the basement, is the douche bag that ended up with my Spyderco.
Evidently he found it, thought he’d use it to box up the last of his stuff, and not return it despite knowing it’s mine. The funniest part?…he cut his thumb and ended up having to get a few stitches. I only found this out when my mother in law (who frigging knows it’s my knife, but he’s the spoiled baby of the family and she’d never admit he STOLE something) told my wife about his trip to the ER. This is the woman I did hours of carpentry work for free to help make the house more appealing to the buyers.

I’ll probably never get my Chap back (he’s moving to New Mexico), but I will never look at him the same and the mother in law will never see any free labor from me again.

So case closed and lesson learned…even family will stab you in the back.

Thanks to all the members who followed along and tolerated me blowing off some steam, I hope this thread wasn’t too annoying. 😂

that sucks Lee, but at least you know what happened to it and you don't have to wonder or continue looking
And now I don’t have to worry that somehow a neighborhood kid would find it and get hurt. I’d touched it up recently, and that little Spyderco is like a frigging scalpel.
Sounds terrible, but I get a giggly thinking about that thieving bastard lashing himself open with MY knife. He deserves it.

Sad ending to this one, Lee, and I’m sorry to hear it.

Man, that sucks!

As I was catching up on this thread, I was thinking to myself, "Whelp, somebody stole that sucker". Sorry to find out I was right!
