Almost done. Opinions?

Matt,

It's nicely crafted on one side.

To not double grind that style of knife, with those materials is simply lazy.

Your scratching the mark in with whatever you did looks like dog dookie.....either get a stamp made or buy an electro etch machine.

If you are making this knife for yourself, good job. If you are charging money for it, keep trying.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks for the constructive criticism, I hope we know each other well enough to know that I'm not taking it negatively. :D

I'm a function over form guy. This is a fighting knife. I prefer a chisel grind on a fighting knife because it creates a more aggravated wound channel.

I'm not a fan of the short swedge. (Is it called a swedge on a chisel grind? lol)
I'm also not a fan of the small handle size.

I agree with most of what Kohai999 said. I'm not fighting knife expert, but I'm going to leap out and say that it looks like one extremely front heavy knife.

Your grinds to me, are getting much more crisp and straight. I think the grinds actually are pretty decent, and for a chisel grind it is pretty well done imho. Not much into fighters, but do like bowies, and free handing your makers mark, is much improved but get a stamp or something of the sort and I would loose the FTW thing cause folks may not like it is all. The key to getting a chisel grind correct is to not have the blade pull to the unground side so I think you did good. The swedge is done well too for the type of blade it is. Nope I think it is a decent knife, ground way better than what you have been doing, but now you just need to put a 5" handle on this baby! keepem sharp

PS I think you broke the edges of the handle just fine

I like the blade, nice shape and fantastic damascus. And the chisel grind is actually on the right side
But the handle could use some more attention IMHO. It looks almost unfinished because its so blocky. A nice bevel around the edge would look nicer I think. And yeah, that makers mark looks out of place on such a nice damascus.

Just my 0,02€

Steven Garsson is definitely right about the makers mark. It's a well done knife, but the makers mark totally pulls away from the quality on the rest. A fighting knife is good, but with those materials, you're getting into beautiful, viking style deadly beauty, and the makers mark really does pull the rest of it down. You don't have to make a cursive italic signature, but a consistent makers mark that is pleasing, but can still look rustic, would do very well.

I also agree the handle doesn't balance the blade visually.

But if the makers mark issue was on its way to being resolved, I would be PMing you right now for ordering a custom. Seriously, PM me if you get a stamp or etcher.

Sorry to disappoint but I prefer to scratch my mark.

The engraving says quite a bit, I like it and the knife

My tang stamp is an evolution my old stamp, FTW... which became FTWCM... and later FTW 3-13 when I ran out of C & M stickers for my electrochem etcher. Then Nathan The Machinist made me a set of stamps (I don't have a press to use them) in A2 but he bucked up and they said CMFTW. I figured maybe that was God's plan all along. So again, it's a message of inspiration.
