Wow. How about asking a Wildlife Biologist the damage free roaming cats cause. Maybe you will listen to an expert but probably not.
MEOW.
What about the "Good" birds, reptiles, etc??
....thus putting the ecosystem back into balance. You are the Ying....your cat is the Yang.......it's all about harmony.
.....or it could just be that we like blasting those vermin......could go either way.
Tails in the yard, I'd say your cats are doing what cats do.
We adopted a couple cats that were born outside but now their 100% in doors.
My wirehair on the other hand has a good sized fenced in woodsy back yard and has racked up quite a list him self. I personally never find evidence of squirrels and chipmunks until poopy pick up day but the bigger stuff like muskrats, woodchucks, and raccoons are kinda hard to miss, glad we don't get poisonous snakes, but he has had a few run ins with snapping turtles, always fun.
The way I see it, it's fenced, my kids play back there all the time, and if any of the local critters haven't figured out they shouldn't be inside the fenced area they need to be fast, really fast.

Cats don't kill the "good"; they kill the "slow", the "sick", the "inattentive", thus maintaining if not improving the vitality of each species.
