I think the Kershaw Skyline is the greatest folding knife in the world

I've cut up a lot of cardboard with mine and it's still tight, as it was new.

I agree. The Skyline was my work knife for about three months. I work in a factory and open up a lot of boxes. No problems with it, never even had to monkey with the pivot. The only reason I stopped carrying it was to put something new into the rotation.

perhaps i got a lemon.

but my opinion has not changed.

You must have. I edc'd one for about 6 months and it never developed any blade play. I must have flipped that thing open and closed a thousand times. It got smoother but not any looser.

I'll be honest, I ordered the Orange one and when it came, I was a little disappointed. I'm a huge Kershaw fan and I don't see me getting rid of this one anytime soon, but it was well smaller than I pictured and I'm just not a fan of liner/frame locks with an un-lined G10 scale.

I do like it and am such a fan of Kershaw, G10 scales, and flippers (and Orange), that I carry it every now and then, but I just didn't get that excited feeling that I thought I'd get when it arrived.

I pulled the pocket clip off and use it as a deep-carry gentleman-style knife.

If you are happy, I am happy.

I've handled one, I don't like liner locks for the most part and I don't like the pocket clip. Plus the blade is a tad over the 3 inch legal limit here in MI.

I'd vote the Delica 4 FFG as the perfect knife (for me).

I have the delica 4 ffg and i like that knife alot, but for the price the frn feels kinda cheap...

Every time I think about how the FRN is kinda "cheap", I remind myself that it's attached to Spyderco's fantastic VG10, and then all is right with the world again!

very good point there! thats why ive been looking for another spyderco with more solid handles and locking but still with some of there high end steel :)

But in the case of knifes, they are such a simple tool, what does your money really get you? How can you REALLY improve on the Moras, the Opinels (I think I could also make a case of this being the greatest folding knife in the world), and in this tread's case, the Skyline?

If all knives were $1 then yeah, there'd be plenty just as good as the Skyline. But I think the only thing you get for the increased cost is aesthetics, and I'm logically finding it hard to buy other folders just for that reason.

You really only have to look at other Kershaw knives to debunk this. Knives in their lineup that cost more offer more features: larger blade, better blade steel, assisted opener, etc. It's not like they charge more for a certain color.

and mine also has some up and down play, any idea of how to fix it? :(

Your Delica, or Skyline? Unfortunately, the answer to either one is: there's not really too much you can do with vertical play. With a liner lock, engaging the lock bar farther over along the blade tang can sometimes help, but it's not really a good solution. As for Spyderco's lock back knives (or any manufacturer's, for that matter), a slight bit of vertical play isn't really out of the realm of possibilities, and honestly, it's not a big deal. It might feel annoying, but I wouldn't feel any less confident about the lock's ability to engage and stay put, unless the vertical play was considerable.

I picked up my first skyline recently. I'm a huge kershaw fan. But, I just really don't care for it. The handle is too small for me and doesn't fit me well at all. It's just too small and light for me to be a good edc knife. I tucked it away into a pocket organizer that I sometimes throw into a cargo pocket, and that's where it will live out its life. I doubt it will ever see the inside of my right front pocket.

It is my delica4, and yes its not that bad, but its just a pet peeve and feels like it would break if i put it to harder use, but im sure it still is strong, and my other spyderco lockbacks feel great! it is just my delica that feels like that. maybe some of the side to is the frn? like i said its not bad just wondering if it could be fixed.

What a strange thread. And what a strange place this has become; people telling each other why they're wrong about one knife or another being good/great/greatest.
