That's not the original Camillus !! Name was bought just like Schrade.

It's low end

Well I guess that will save me from buying this, and my heart was really sold on this design. Carbon Fiber handle with a vg-10 blade. :(

ya, they're selling them at walmart now :barf:

Thats awful, but I do see Kershaws, Spyderco's(a few), and Buck being sold at Walmart too. I would like to think, at least hope, that just them being sold there doesn't reflect there current quality.

wow, i've never seen Spyderco's at mine  their Kershaw's are their lower end versions (not bad, just cheaper to buy and sell), and i don't believe Buck is the brand it used to be ( although their warranty is great

Are you being sarcastic?

Just because some random poster on the interwebs said it is "low end" does not mean much.

Buy it, it may become your favorite knife....

IIRC they're all made in China now.

I have heard a few positive reviews of their VG10 folders, though - there are a couple on youtube, including a nutnfancy review. They seem to be pretty simple fare - VG10 liner locks in reasonably conservative designs.

If it has a VG-10 blade and good materials for the handle and you like the design.....who cares what name is on it?

As for Walmart, my local walmart carries Spydeco, Buck and some Kershaws. I've seen most of the popular knife companies at the different Walmarts I've been to as well. Just depends, some Walmarts that are in rural areas carry more knives, ones in the cities tend to only have a few and they are most often Gerber.

The three in our city carry assault rifles (had several in stock before the buying spree) but never seen a spyderco in there. :( Just buck, kershaw, gerber, and random low ends.

I like that knife. Would like it even more with a stone wash and no jimping.

Yeah, the stock from store to store varies a lot. Our Walmart doesn't carry guns at all, but has a lot of knives and it's in a fairly rural area. However, we have a few large gun dealers in the area that carry a lot of knives as well. Not to mention the Town has a code that doesn't allow gun dealers in city limits without special permission from the city council. Given the competition in the area and the hoops they had to jump through they just decided not to carry guns.

All I know is that Walmart tends to tailor their inventory to the area and buying patterns of the people that shop there. The more knives sold at the store the more they'll stock.

I looked at a Camillus the other day and on the package it said it was made in "China or Taiwan" so I guess some are made in Taiwan.

This was one I had not seen before and it was "VG-10 Japanese steel". It may have been the knife shown above, I don't remember the knife as much as I do recall it could be made in China OR Taiwan and it was VG10.

That looks a lot like my William Henry EDC - 10 in carbon fiber. You might want to look at one of those. The EDC - 10 is inexpensive for WH and I think mine is a great EDC blade.

I know it's been a long time since the post before this, but I thought I should add that I contacted Camillus, inquiring about their blade metal , specifically the VG-10 . Their response was that their blades are indeed VG-10 and are separately manufactured in Japan . The blades and the rest of the knife parts are put together in China. I went ahead and bought a Camillus knife off Amazon since it's only $27 with VG-10. The quality of the knife is superb , there's no lateral play at all. The knurling on the G10 is excellent. This knife has a marlin spike at the end and both the blade and marlin spike open and close with buttery smoothness with just the right amount of resistance... The blade and marlin spike lock into place solidly. I have not been able to bend the blade or spike up down left or right with any amount of force that wouldn't risk chipping the blade. The blade has full steel liners and it has steel backing from end to end. It's very thin and very light it's exactly 1 cm in width. Most importantly I've compared the blade with my other knives that have VG-10 and I am certain it is indeed VG-10. The factory sharpness shaves hair and push cuts printer paper with ease. And I actually find the spike useful.

It's too good to be true... This is definitely my go to gift for any occasion, birthday, stocking stuffer, etc. For $27 I can't think of anything more valuable, that's like a 1/4 tank of gas for me . Right now Amazon is the only place that has it for $27 and it actually lowered in price recently it just keeps going down I've been looking at it for a while.

I took high-resolution macro pictures hopefully they will show up below . The pictures below show the marlin spike in the open position , just remember it folds back up and the curvature adds to the ergonomics of the grip of the knife I've found.

I would care about the ability of the maker to use the ingredients, not to mention the integrity of that maker going to the accuracy of the claims as to ingredients. If both are documented, why not?
